I have plans, but they are buried at the back of my shop, I'm doing renovations. Pyro made a model called the Bomb Ketch, and here are some pictures. The pyro model is what got me interested in the Marine Models kit.

    ere is a little update.

I have the transom again revised. Because of the strong grain of the wood the planks angle is barely visible. As said earlier, I will represent the caulking after grinding. Overall, it's an entirely different matter 2mm thick planks to shape and install. In my other models I have double planked hulk. And the plank thickness was only 0.75 mm.

Here the current results of the work

    Modelling the wales.

To determine the location of the main wale I did use a copy of the sheer profile plan.

The location of the main wale

This copy was the base for modelling the wales.

I wasn't able to bend the bow parts of the wales, about it I have made it by sawing. I bend the long parts of the wales and later on the planks after immersing it in water. For the heat I use a soldering iron with a surface designed for bemding modelplanks

The distanz between the main and lower wale is one plank.

Also just out of fun curiosity I found this one, the HMS Racehorse, which isn't based on the 1757 ship plans (of which there are none), but instead of the 1781 ship that was a purchase.  Also the scale 1:47 is an error since at 23" that would make the ship tiny and the draught appears to be over 100' probably closer to 75 or 96 scale even?

I may be asked to restore and complete this twenty year old kit of the Santa Maria. I am told it is 1:50 scale and 29" long. All I have seen is photos so far, not the actual kit. I am doing some legwork trying to figure out who made the kit and am hitting a snag.
I see that Mantua has a 1:50 scale Santa Maria and I though my problem was solved until I took a closer look and could see that there is a decorative row of stern windows on all versions of the Santa Maria, and few kits agree with each other on the number of these windows.
Here are three photos. One of the uncompleted ship and a shot of the plans for the uncompleted ship, each showing six decorative windows.
The third photo is of a competed 1:50 scale mantua kit with ten decorative windows.

Artisana Latina makes a 1:65 scale Santa Maria but with NO windows aft.

Is it possible that it IS a Mantua kit but twenty years ago their kits had only six windows and now they have ten?
Can anyone enlighten me on who made this kit?

I asked for photos of the instruction sheets, assuming the manufacturers name would be found there, but nothing obvious is visible, just the cryptic legend "nr 8017"

    Hi all,

Just a little update. I've finished rigging the cannon (minus coiled rope that will be added right at the end of the build to keep the deck tidy while I do the rigging...

I've also been working a little on the starboard staircase. It's a fiddly little blighter, and I haven't decided whether I can live with the colour discrepancy between this one and the one already in situ - I think I must have used a different wood as it's much darker once varnished :S (see last picture)... I'll sleep on it and see how I feel about it in the morning. I suspect it's going to mean another re-work...

    Happy building

    Hi,
    Art of shipbuilding.
Due to the lack of scientific methods of calculation and design of ships
ship building in the old days was a kind of art and everything depended on the experience of employee master of shipbuilding.
Gathered here from my archive of photos from various museums showing how ships were built centuries ago.
A few photos from the net is because old shipyards are still in the Navy possession  or a ban on photographing in some museums.
    Project.
Construction of a new ship ordered by the King was preceded by a performance of the model to the Admiralty can assess whether the project meets its requirements. Many of such models have survived to our time, they show the details of construction of the hull, we call it The Admiralty Models.
Because in those days there were no scientific method stability calculations all based on the experience of masters of shipbuilding.

    Dear friends model builders,

I am starting here a new build log in the name of my very good friend Mile Bijelić. We have registered Mile last weekend and since Mile has limited access to a computer and is just learning in getting used to it, I will be posting his photos more often. Nevertheless, Mile will read the comments and reply - possibly with a certain delay, you may excuse him.

First to introduce Mile Bijelić from my point of view: Mile is a very kind and dear person who impressed me since many years with his extremely exact way of working with the models. As far as I am concerned, Mile made something over 20 model ships of higher complexity. I myself was always getting my jaws dropped when looking at the beauty he managed to express with his models. All the photos I made cannot express the feeling when I observe them in the nature. At the same time, Mile is an extremely uncomplicated, openhearted person willing to help without end. We were sitting, I can remember the winter where we had some repairing at the electrical installation in the district of the town Zagreb and it was cold, we were sitting in the coats in his room for 13 hours and in the evening we were using our pocket lamps. He was and is always here for me to support me with my (challenging) project (De Zeven Provincien, 1665 in scale 1:45).

Mile won gold at the world Championship twice: in August 1998 with the Royal Caroline 1749, scale 1:35 and in September 2013 with the Royal Prince 1670, scale 1:70.

Just for the introduction, I will post here the photo of Mile (he is in the blue shirt on the right, Royal Prince in the middle and myself am on the left side) and a second photo of Mile with his awards.

From now, I will add photos under my name and Mile will write from his account directly.

    Cheers
Dražen (in the name of Mile)
