Backbone / Oar module prior to finishing and mating with the keel. The keel is presently having veneer applied and will be fitted to the Oar module when finished.

Hi Ben.
Im surpriced watching your effords trying to build your ship.My opinion on your problem.
You should have sealed the interior firstly,i mean the inner shell to avoid any structures timber deformation when it contacts with water. Its important also before paint the body to use wood sealant colour putty just to ensure its sealled, and before use any paint or varnish ,need to apply a primer oil.
Excelent work

Thanks Niels.
By the way i have just red about the dramatic end the ship had and how.... Rather than let the enemy capture they ordered the ship to be scuttled using dynamite..

Watched the trailer now I want to see the movie. Ioannis do you have a Bireme as well as a Trireme? The Trireme looks like the mechanics would be easier to make now that I have the Bireme somewhat figured out, I built the Bireme because there were less oars to deal with and I had never built a rowing ship or even a static model of one before. I am getting Greek warship fever though and the Trireme is becoming more attractive to build a RC replica of. I also am making plans to build a RC model of the Boatman of the river Styx, I plan on mounting a camera under his hood and have his head turn left and right so I can use my Fat Shark goggles to cruise around a pond. Is it possible for me to get plans of the actual Trireme?

Sometimes life gets in the way of the fun stuff...
But summer is soon over and the nights are getting longer.

This will be my first scratch build
So after getting some books from ANCRE my choice fell on La Belle and the configuration it had under Cavellier de la Salle’s 1684 expedition.
It is mentioned in Frölich's book as one of the easier ships for a beginner to scrach building. (We'll see about that...)
Just order some pearwood from Arkowood, this will be the main building blocks for this model.
I have some boxwood I'll use for carvings and decorations, later I'll order some ebony for wales, railings and blocks.
In a couple of weeks (when my salary comes in) some Proxxon powertools are coming my way from germany.
One of the big reasons for this picking this build is it's relativly nice size.
Size of the model
Length Width Height
Hull 54 15 18
Model rigged 62 24 52

ioannis reacted to Angarfather in Statenjacht Utrecht by Angarfather - 1:36
Since the beginning of May was little time for Utrecht. Some rather interesting jobs took precedence.
But something was still managed in Angarfathers dockyard. Some pics from the way To make the sternsection was a most interesting job. The outside after first fairing Fairing the inside Aligning the components prior to assembly That's Utrecht today. Cheers Hartmut -
ioannis reacted to Angarfather in Statenjacht Utrecht by Angarfather - 1:36
Many centuries watertransport was the fastest and most comfortable way of traveling on the coasts and along the big rivers in Europe. By towing with horses along the rivers and canals. By sail across the open waters.
The statenjacht was the Rolls Royce of this passenger ships. Used to move fx company executives or other VIPs from place to place to execute their jobs.
It was the time of the Barroque. So this ships were fitted out with most comfortable state cabins, bedrooms, kitchens, and last but not least magnificently decorated.
At first I had in mind to build the HMY Mary from 1670. Only her decorations and paintings were very complicated.
The Utrecht, however, seems to me a bit simpler decorated. Moreover, in the books of Seawatch books are very good plans of this ship.
I build the Utrecht in scale 1:36. As POF model. However, I'm doing the frames of10mm plywood. Since the frames are not seen through the planking, solid wood is too good for this job in my eyes.
Some shots from yesterday.

ioannis reacted to Timmo in Cruizer-class brig by Timmo - FINISHED - 1:36 scale - RADIO
The cruizer has been cut free from its building board. It's surprisingly light but feels fairly strong and fibreglass will still be needed.
Framing for the bow and stern bulwarks next.
I'm liking those lines and think in hindsight I probably should have gone for a slightly larger scale. I'm sure it'll be fine.
