  1. So, I'm in the process of separating all the frame parts and I'm concerned about the parts for frame Af. My Af frame parts don't seem to fit together very well. The upper timbers seem to be over sized compared to the lower frame at the joint, pictures below. This surprised me since all the others fit together almost perfectly. Did anyone else encounter this? Or is just me? I'm confident I have the right parts.
  2. Its been a while since updated this log. I have started working on the masts. This is not something I usually do so I'm learning as I go.
  3. Welcome!
  4. Trying to get back in the saddle here. Continuing on with my gap issue with the apron. I went back a couple of steps here and removed most of the forward parts of the rabbet strip and replaced it. This was because I removed some material in an attempt to get the apron to sit flush, which didn't work. I decided to replace the rabbet strips with the 1/16 strip included in the kit. I cut the first two parts to match the length of the kit parts. I soaked them and clamped in place to hold the shape and then glued them on afterwards. I also removed two of the upper parts to allow the apron to flex a bit. They may have also have been causing the lower apron to straighten a bit. At this point its nearly a perfect fit and it doesn't look like I will need any flex at all. The next challenge for me is gluing the parts on. These parts are wider than the keel so I will need to figure out how to make sure I get them properly centered.
  5. I'm a little behind on this. I've had a couple medical procedures to deal with over the last two weeks so I haven't been able to do much. I'll be back on it soon.
  6. I finished up the apron. I was hesitant to trim the parts all the way down to the line due to potential errors on my part, so stopped a bit short of that and will finish fairing them later. I did accidentally chip a piece off the top of the number 2 part and had to make a repair. You can see that in the last picture. I then did a dry fit of the remaining keel parts. I noted that the keel is slightly longer than the plan but I believe that is intentional based on what I read in the instructions. I think the most critical point going forward is to make sure the upper and lower apron are in the right position. I mentioned this previously, I have a gap between the lower apron and the rabbet strip. I didn't sand anything there so not sure what caused it. I reduced the thickness of the plank forming the rabbet strip immediately behind the laser cut part of the rabbet strip and that did nothing. I need to figure out how to deal with this. I may remove the rabbet strip there and try again. Or maybe I should just fill the gap with some strip material. You can see the gap in the picture below.
  7. I'm ready to glue the parts of the apron together and noted that the upper parts are just slightly over size. See Pics. Obviously some material needs to be removed but from where? The front or back of the upper piece? Or both? Just want to be sure I don't create a future problem when the frames go on. Thanks
  8. A short update. I glued the upper parts of the lower apron apron together. I still need to shape them. I also removed the lower apron part from its sacrificial wood piece (I stuck it back on with some double sided tape) and tested it against my keel. I noted there is a gap between the part and the rabbet strip. Not sure why, so that's something I need to figure out. I think it could be the cedar strip behind the laser cut rabbet strip is still a little too thick but I'm not sure because I did thin it down a bit.
  9. Hello moreplovac. I'm moving this to the scratch build logs section.
  10. I have completed the rabbet strip and the false keel. Looking good so far and goes together easily.
  11. That is frustrating. Have you tried contacting them?
  12. I don't. If you look at my picture of the box contents you'll see a strip with a split on the end, third from bottom, it's 1/32 thick. There are 3 of those. The other 3 are 1/16 thick.
  13. Thanks. I have 6 strips, 3 are 1/16, which I believe are for the rabbet, and the other 3 are very thin, like 1/32. Am I missing something?
