Here is a good article about a liner that broke records and the people who wish to revive her.

Jerry, with everything that has been happening with me I missed your log.  My apologies.  If I had the software I could make a small fortune turning it into a book.  Titled the Journey of the Constellation, from concept to the Water.  I am learning many things about RC that I have never knew before.

My package arrived today.  The book is a nice size and and easy to read for those with bad eyes.  There are several tables giving sizez and dimensions along with plans and diagrams.  To me this is a keeper.  I will enjoy this book when I go back to Iowa City.  From what I have seen this is a must for anyone who want to build a Swan class vessel either kit or scratch.

Another thing you have to think about is the species of wood you are using.  Is it flexible or stiff as a board.  I have found using the right type of wood helpful when planking and bending.

For anyone who uses a syringe you can flatten out the needle.  Then use this to make your trunnels.  The hollow needle will leave a very fine circle and with the grain going in the same direction looks great.  I am now on Lovenox injections daily.  Once I learn how to deactivate the safety on the syringes I will flatten out the tips and give it a try.  Be very careful if you do this though.

The problem with naptha is that it is  highly flamable.  Not to be used in a confined space.  While I have used it every now and then I prefer not using it in my apt if I do not have to, the fumes may ignite if there is a spark if there is no adequate ventilation.  As a result I prefer mineral spirits ot turps as my solvent of choice.

I use a handle I found in a hobby shop years ago.  It tightens from the back and is rubber with a hexagonal shape at the end so it does not roll around.  As a result of being tightened in the back the blade is secure and will not loosen up.

Rice paper can be used to make realistic sails. Cut to shape and folded it looks good and can be manipulated.

Congrats on a great model from a soso kit.  I wonder if I would do what you have done in the same situation.

Fantastic build Greg.  I thought it was the real thing when I saw those black and whites.  I would love to see that model at Manitowoc when finished it would be a show stopper.

I invested in a Badger 360 dual action airbrush with a compressor.  I found it superior to rattle cans for ease of use and control of the spray.  I started out years ago with a Paashe single action H. I have always had trouble with cans.

What brand of paint do you use and the type of airbrush?   I am curious because of the scale you are working in.

One of the things you might try is filling in around the ports.  Using balsa or another soft wood as a filler.  I might take awhile but would probably be worth it down road.

Another thing you can test is the length of your planking.
