I live in KZN. There are a few online stores that I've found but they seem few and far between. I would love suggestions if you know anywhere -

LOL I've been working with a board on my lap on the couch. I think once I start a larger ship I will need a workbench. I am looking to get a good vise to hold the workpiece, can you recommend anything? Name brands would be useful -

Thanks John. I've been trying to buy quality tools -I hate flimsy hard-to-use stuff. In my city there's just one hobby shop and their range isn't extensive. As a result I've bought most of my stuff online and it's been difficult to judge. The AL stuff has been very disappointing at that price. I'm planning to start my build log today. This forum has been so useful -

Wow thank you everyone, really great ideas! I'm going to buy a couple of things from Amazon today -
Hi all, I've just started this model ship building - I've bought myself the AL HMS Bounty Jolly Boat - can anyone recommend useful tools that I should consider investing in? I'd love if you'd suggest brands that make good quality. I bought a horrible AL tweezer and their glue had turned hard, so I'm not in love with their stuff.

Thanks for that advise. To be clear, would that be a pin vise with a fine drill bit?

Thank you so much, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that! I'm generally very pedantic about keeping everything organised. I'd been reading the instructions while waiting for the nailer and must've just left it out somewhere. I'll send you an email shortly

Hi everyone, I've recently, very excitedly, taken up this hobby. I thought I'd start off small with the Artesania Latina HMS Bounty Jolly Boat. It didn't take long for me to realise that I needed to purchase a nailer, which has taken three weeks to arrive. During the wait I have misplaced the instruction booklet. Does anyone know how I could get another one without me having to buy another kit?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
