  1. Hey guys. Fun fact. Did you know because of the spring equinox you can balance a broom. I didn’t believe it till I tried it. anyhoo simple day, I just painted. I like to wait 24 hrs before shading. before after, I don’t know why the Break water looks dark in this photo. The two colors are haze grey and deck blue. I like Tamiya paints so I had to mix the colors myself. it still looks dark. Must be the lighting
  2. Hey guys a little update. I finished up the four reels. I cut small pieces of 1.5 mm brass rod to finish them since pontos didn’t provide anything. Now that I think about it I could have taken apart the kit reels and used them. Oh well here they are. They were A surprising pain in the ***. I’m not sure if I should wrap black rope around them yet or just paint the reels black. next I ran into a huge problem but in the end had an EASY fix. The break water trusses were easy to glue on though I had no idea how to install those straight pieces. Pontos is 100% useless with the breakwater, zero instructions. but when I had three of them on there was a problem. It was very hard to have them sitting flush on a flat surface. So I tried to trim the bottoms of them but I trimmed off too much. This was going to be a major headache. You can kind of see what I’m talking about in the next photo. it was time for Plan B. I grabbed the kit provided break water to see how ugly it was. To my surprise it was not bad at all. Problem solved. I am going to sand the trusses thinner. I want to drill two holes in each truss so it looks like the Pontos kit but I have no idea how to do that when the trusses are only 3 mm apart.( well straight holes anyway) Here’s the kit piece. tomorrow’s a holiday here and I’m ready to airbrush. I’ll talk to you all tomorrow after I airbrush and take pictures.
  3. I didn’t have much time today for MO. the next section I’ll focus on is this section. Should be easy enough. So basically I just cut everything out. I figured it out but damn, is Pontos trying to make the instructions as hard as possible to understand? oh and I assembled these two pieces.
  4. I dug up more photos of the last 2 weeks. there’s 52 of those guns. Instead of making them all at once I’ve decided to make them as I need them. same with these, as I need them. One is slightly weathered. One is not that just about brings me to where I am now.
  5. Hey guys, sorry I’ve been gone forever. My dad died then a good friend died. I withdrew from everything. I’m back now. Better late than never right? so I started back up on the Missouri 2 weeks ago. Here’s a few pictures of what she looks like now. Not much progress, sorry.
  6. My question is this though. You see how I put rust streaks on the holes in the hull. Now do I have to do that to every porthole of the superstructure to keep it consistent? I guess I don’t know yet how I’m should weather the superstructure. I have time to think bout it.
  7. I tried a little salt streak on the upper hull. It’s not visible over the haze grey. Maybe another salt streak wash would help but I’m just going to move on I guess. For now.
  8. Bilge keel... interesting. Sorry it’s been sloooooow and booooring. I’ve just been so busy with life. If the workshop wasn’t 27 miles away it would be much faster I’m sure. Anyhoo, I’m finally done with weathering the hull I think. I’m going for a “ humans suddenly go extinct 2 years ago, as a result it’s been neglected in dry dock Ever since” look. This side came out better. This will be the display side. First was the grime for red hulls. next I put the rust streaks in. Not a good photo though. then last was the salt. You can also see how I did it. I brushed it on at the waterline, waited 5 minutes then just pulled it down with a flat brush. It’s probably the wrong way to do it but it’s done now. now I can finally move onto other stuff like the props.
  9. Ok I can see how it is very easy to over do this weathering. Please tell me if this looks stupid. Or if it’s to much. Or anything. I have no idea what I’m doing. It does look better in person than the photos though.
  10. Oh wow thank you for the offer. As much as I would like to. That would be an awkward thing to ship lol. I found a 6 foot Slab as cheap as $40. But I might just stick to the pine for now. Maybe I will take you up on the offer on the next build. 😁
  11. Oh wow thanks for the info and feedback. It definitely gets humid in New Hampshire. I love the oak! On a side note my new crane is just about done.
  12. So I think I’m going to leave the paint on the hull the way it is. If I try to fix it I will be in danger of abandoning the model and I don’t want to do that. I started messing around with all the washes I bought. I have no idea what I’m doing. I tried out the salt streaks, rust streaks and the streaking grime. Does it look ok? Any pointers before I do the entire hull? The salt streaks are barely noticeable. The orange peel does not seem to effect the wash (thank god) Also I started on the base. I bought a 1 by 12 premium pine board. I wanted oak but holy crap $60?!?
  13. Ugh...ok but Before I sand it I want to just try to weather the hull just to see what happens at the very least it would be practice. Does anyone know of any ship weathering tutorials? I had had a little time so I made up these things. I don’t know what they are called. Pretty straight forward. drill two .4mm holes using the guide. then two 1mm holes then shove them in. No glue required the fit is so tight
  14. I always use the brands thinner. Mission models paint has a thinner and also a poly mix additive that’s supposed to help the paint dry slower. Even so I think the paint was drying before it hit the model. I love Tamiya paint and never had this problem with them. There color selection sucks for me though. I currently have lifecolor, ak interactive, mission models, panzer aces, model air, velejo, and tamiya. And I’m only comfortable with tamiya.....sucks I knew this was gonna be a problem before I started this ship. But I’m going to try the leveling thinner. How much do you put into the paint?
