I ve prepared and blackened the barrels- some of them had to be refined, as there were some small defects from the moulding. -

My greetings, dear Johann. My work on the corronades was based mainly on Your Masterclass on the carronades creation. I have never seen a more detailed and informative report. Concerning the constructio n I ve payed attention that the upper, movable part of the gun carriage is thinner than the lower part, so i made it like this ,but i did not know that it has trapezoidal shape. Im very grateful to You for such a valuable information ! I will definitely know that for the future. But these gun carriages will be left as they are, moreover that in my case the inclination will be of the size of a fraction of mm. Please, allow mw to express my gratitude to You for the information, its an honor for me that You as a Maître of such a level paid attention to my work. My very best regards -

I found some time for the artillery. I oil coated it, and installed the parts of the corronades lafets. -

Unfortunately, I got the artillery with a shortage, there were no trunnions for the carronades. I had to make it myself. The main difficulty was producing a large number of identical parts. Since I don’t have enough metalworking equipment, I had to use wood.I made it from black hornbeam which took me some attemps. I deliberately made it simplified, on my scale and with my “machinery park” - I think this is acceptable. -

I need to blacken the metal and assemble. The carronades will have to be refined due to some mistakes in dimensions. -

I have coated the boat with oil and made a slipway. Once assembled, it turned out to look like this. Macro photography revealed some disadvantages, but in the future I will eliminate them. -

In general I have completed work on the small boat. On the drawing it comes without metal fastenings for the mast, after some thought I decided to do it as on the drawing. What is left to do is to cover it with oil, make two slipways and install it inside the longboat. -

Basically, I have finished the longboat. I don’t see the point in further detalisation. There will anyway be a boat on top. I didn’t do the the rudder as well, because I don’t have to install it anyway. All that’s left is to cover it with oil. -

Unfortunately I couldnt use the boards the second time. Maybe they will come in handy for the covering of a small lifeboat. -

I made a technological mistake and here is the result. I will have to try again.🙂 Meanwhile I am tuning the Proxxon circular saw, a gift for the New Year. Some components are very crude and require some changes. My best regards -

The first option went to the trash can. The form seems to be sheathed well, but it’s impossible to remove the shell. Something hasn’t been done fully probably. Apparently I will have to remake the form, and make it from three parts that can be disassembled. -

While the oil is drying out, I decided to start with the boat and longboat. I made two “pieces” and now deciding which manufacturing method to choose. -

The bollards were quite challenging to make. I tried several options until I found the right installation method. -

I have built shelves for storing cannonballs. I will use balls from bearings as cannonballs, I bought two sizes for carronades and for cannons. After blackening they look quite good.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
