Well today I managed to get a few things done. The Fore Lower Yard is completed. I got it rigged, mounted and squared with the lifts. Been a busy day, as any of you that got a drawplate from me as they got shipped out today. Still 2 left. The chain sheet lines are an interesting feature of how this ship was rigged as well as the double topsail sails. Three yards to go. Hard to believe they will be the last physical parts to be installed....The end is really approaching....then what????? Details once again are on my website for anyone interested.

For some reason I have procrastinated securing the anchors. I've done everything else, but just bypassed this. Since I'm now working in the bow area it's time to bite the bullet and just do it! After that I pre rigged the Fore Lower Yard, painted it and glued it in place. I did not square it or rig it ....that's tomorrow.

The Main Mast is complete except braces and the Fore Lower Yard is partially detailed and dry hung for reference.

Finished up the Main Topgallant Yard and hung it off on the mast. Still needs to be squared and rigged -- 6 more lines.

Managed to finish the Main Upper Topsail Yard and get it squared, rigged and completed today. Belaying lines is getting to be a challenge....it's getting crowded...lol. Time to put the Magician's Hat on I guess..

A little more progress as I work my way up the Main Mast. Got the Main Upper Topsail Yard completed and hung off on the parrel tub using a chain halyard tied off to another block and then belayed to the stbd pin rail. Details and pictures on my website. It still needs to be squared and other lines run before moving up to the Top Gallant.

OK, today I managed to finish the remaining whaleboats. They are sitting on the boat bearers for photographs only. These little buggers were a lot of work but lots of fun. Repetitious, but each a model in their own. All details are explained and photographed on my website for those following along. This completes BUILD LOG V on the site. Off to finish the running rigging...the end is in sight...wow!

Hello to all and Happy 2016. Thanks for all the comments and the like button.

Greg, the finish I have now has been sprayed with an acrylic satin finish varnish. I'm trying to preserve this color. Since everything is crisp and brand new looking I want to keep the whole ship this way.

Thanks George, glad we're all safe at home.

Thanks Piet, the same for you and Gwen, give her a hug and a New Years kiss for us.

Thanks Mark, hope all is well in Oregon, you guys have been getting kind of beat up lately

Well, I finished the first whaleboat today. Four to go. Stained, glued, varnished painted and attached all the components for the first boat. Then set it on the ship until I finish the Running Rigging. Details on the website.

Today, I managed to make the Harpoons and Lances. Typical boat had 5 harpoons and 3 lances, but I'm only doing 3 harpoons and 1 lance per boat. It's getting crowded and I don't want to overload them. Details are on my website for construction again. Got to do some metalwork today...fun.

Lester asked me to post this picture of his grandson showing the proper way to thrust a harpoon as compared to the movie trailer showing someone hurling it like a javelin l

I'm sure glad the cutters on my drawplate are sharp, because my sore fingers and hands (from drawing the dowels through the plate - have to keep a tight grip on the dowels) would probably gone in for a mutiny...perhaps if I had more to do they would just quit altogether. I managed to draw enough dowels through the plate to construct all of the oars, masts, booms and gaffs for the 5 whaleboats. I made the Waifs, and Sails for each boat. The sails will be attached to Mast, Boom and Gaff, then furled, tied and stowed on each whaleboat. These all still need to be stained, glued, painted and detailed prior to stowing on the boats. There is still a lot to do to these things yet.....mucho details! But Fun! Construction details are on my website for those intrested...

Made six oars for the Orange Boat. Each has a different purpose and each boat has 6 oars and other things on board. Details on my website for construction.

Hi guys, I got to work some in the workshop today after some honey do's. I've started making the small dowels for the oars, harpoons and such that require stick handles for the whaleboats. I haven't counted yet but I've got a gazillion of these to make. The Barnes Drawplate proved to be too small starting around 1.3 mm as the largest hole and also it is just steel. I bought a 2.8 mm - 0.26 mm one that is constructed of Tungsten Carbide. I mounted it in my Proxxon Vise with the numbers to the back. Then drew the dowels through the plate. It is still a tedious repetitious undertaking, however, it is very sharp and holds an edge. I'm so pleased with this Drawplate that I'm going to stock them in my "Ship's Store" on my website. It will be a couple of weeks before I have them available. Anyone wanting to reserve one PM me and I'll hold one for you. I have them coming in lots of 5 at a time. I don't like using drawplates, but I know of no other way to successfully recreate very thin uniform dowels. My bamboo sticks are 2.5 mm in diameter and I am taking them down to 1.4 mm. Details are on my website and here is the results:

Well, I have returned home and re-opened the shipyard. So far, all I've been able to do is set up the Morgan on the workbench TV tray and set the whaleboats on the boat bearers to see how they look and take pictures. I'm waiting for a new drawplate that is larger than the Barnes to trim down the small dowels I have to a smaller diameter for the oars and harpoons. It should be in next week, then I'll start making the parts. The Barnes is too small a diameter for what I have. Here are the boats sitting on the boat. They are tilted too far outboard so that they won't fall off. The proper stance is to be attached to the blocks on the Davits and have a natural "hang" and then they are lashed to the Boat Bearers.

Hey John your ship looks fantastic. Are you gonna age the copper on the hull like the picture on the model box or let it age gracefully? Have a Happy New Year!

Well stocked up myself John, since I don't go out on "amateur nights" either. I've seen the majority of people can't drive sober most of the time, let alone after drinking.

Thanks George, you too. We're homebodies, went out this afternoon and stocked up. Home in front of the tube for NY. The cops have gotten so bad here it is totally stupid to go out without a cab or driver....not worth it.
Happy New Years to you and whoever should read this also.
    Take Care my friend,

Hi Lester, yeah, I think I have an area I could cut off for you. I'll be working on the base next week weather permitting. I can't work on it inside...too big. I'll get the pictures for you just as soon as we get a decent blue sky for the photos. It's been cloudy and rainy looking every day since I got finished. This morning was clear but real windy, and when the wind died back it was threatening rain and cloudy again, so it didn't look good outside. I'm anxious for Dick to see them and see what he thinks. Maybe the flag will do the trick....lol
