This one has a search function built in which is nice but seems to be missing many common structural elements. Perhaps it is focused on the terms one would use in operating a sailing vessel? Now this one is a bit special, a searchable Steel!! However, to search it you need to use an external search engine (Google, DuckDuckGo, etc..) with a search phrase something like: site:maritime.org/doc/steel stiving Then use your browser search function to find the term in the resulting page. Pretty OK! But still, that it is pretty awesome that they have scanned Steel and used OCR to convert the text rather than just saving the images. Old hat to many of you but it still makes this one happy. And good grief I have no idea how to use this monster! 😂 Thanks again Patrick!

Howdy! You have gotten some good advice and I can only add a few things. There are a couple of build logs that I could find for Le Hussard that might help you a bit: And: And just remember that this site has many masterpieces and spectacular models that can make any other kind of effort look shabby in comparison but this is not really the point. Your kit is an introduction to the craft and hobby and you can learn many interesting things along the way of building it. As I recall, you were interested in the technique of photo etching and if you could make it work you wanted to use it for many things. I spent that last week or so reading this entire thread from start to finish (kind of like a fun novel!) so your motivations are probably fresher in my mind than your own. Also, I am certain that you will revisit the photo etching at some point as one thing that I have learned from this "story" is that you are very persistent.

Just to provide closure in case someone else has a similar question and finds this post... I was able to get what I wanted by Following the topic in question then view it in an activity with unread messages. When you go to the topic from an activity it will take you to the next unread message so then you can jump to the last page of the topic. Subsequently when you go to the topic from the activity you will be taken to the new unread messages rather than the earlier unread messages on pages that you skipped. Kevin

Is there an easy way to mark an individual topic as Read? Often I wish to mark a topic as read without looking at every page (some are many pages!) and just monitor new activity. I realize that I can follow the topic but when I read from an activity stream I will be taken to the first unread message. It seems like one way to mark a set of topics as read is to follow them then create an activity stream for followed topics and mark that activity stream as Read. However, not all topics that I follow do I wish to "skip" pages. Ain't I a pill? Kevin

Howdy Steven, can I just pay the fine instead?! Seriously, I have seen how valuable all of the build logs are in this forum and wish to be a good citizen but at the same time it is difficult to see much value in my own production of "nautical decorations". In spite of that, I am sure that each member who has the courage to start one has thought more or less the same thing as there are so many build logs demonstrating exceptional craft and even artistry. In addition, Chuck's Medway longboat is really interesting and very tempting but the price of entry seems to be starting a build log. In addition to getting into the production queue. We shall see! Howdy! Before introducing myself I would just like to say how impressed I am with the civility and generosity of the people on this forum. The beautiful work done by so many contributors is obvious but without such a well-run forum I cannot imagine how I would ever be able to enjoy what so many are willing to share. I don't know who deserves the credit but I do know that these things do not happen by accident. I have long been away from the hobby and have not worked on anything since the early 1990's. In part this is probably due to moving away from Colorado and the positive influences of Phil at Boulder Hobbies and Frenchy DeVynck who encouraged my efforts. Much has changed since my time away, the availability and breadth of information is outstanding! Rather than relying on just my own little library of books and magazines to answer some question, I now find that on this forum that there are already many viewpoints and experiments. My interest has been in models of wooden sailing ships, so far exclusively from kits with some kit bashing.
