    Hello Sinan,
Thanks for your compliment. In the making process of the TRITON, I also refer to a book——Conway‘s Anatomy Of The Ship《The 24-Gun Frigate Pandora》&《The Construction And Fitting Of English Man Of War 1650-1850》.According to the content of these books, I again on the original drawings for processing. This job is very interesting, requires a lot of time to think—The basis of archaeological recovery,Ship construction theory, etc.I am a Chinese, to western shipping history knowledge know very little. So in the process of making is sure to appear many mistakes. As a weekend hobbyist,I tried my best to be the best.
I think that hands-on practice, is the most important prerequisite for success.I think I made it.

    Thanks Augie and Pete38,

When an opportunity arises in the future I will make TRITON again.
Thanks again for my old friends and new friends to my support!

A little addendum to the story of my Druid.  Grand Rapids (here in Michigan) has hosted for the past six years an event called ArtPrize.  This is a city wide hosted event focusing on art, both professional and amateur.  There is a prize purse in excess of half a million dollars so this isn't small.  This year saw 1536 entries spread over 174 venues.

My wife wasn't impressed with a lot of last years entries and said she was going to enter the Druid, which she did.  So I earlier this year became an official entry of the 3-D category (with 346 of my closest friends).

I ended up being hosted by a seafood restaurant actually directly across from the art museum:

Over the course of the last week and a half I have been on site talking about my work to over a 1000 people.

I made up small business cards to advertise (standard fare for this event) but took it up a notch with a customized card holder:

I do not want to turn this into a 'what is art and what is not' topic but I was the only ~accurate model based entry (all years).  It was a little hard to keep my ego in check with the consistent outstanding comments people directed at me.  There was lots of "My Grandfather / Father / Son would love this / used to do this."  "I grew up with one of these in the house and have always loved them...."

The feedback was worth it if nothing else.  I did meet a special youth that I invited over for some ship modeling discussions.  Peter has faced a lot of challenges but has been working on a model of the Titanic with popsicle sticks and pictures (no plans):

There is a lot of interest out there in models, particularly ship models.  Do not be afraid to engage and put yourself out there,  I can tell you the rewards are huge.

Thought this to be an interesting shot. I was wanting to get a profile only of the wale to see if it looked correct. Got what I wanted plus the photo:

    Hello Guys

Most of the outside sanding is done and the Main-Wale is started.
The Wale at the bow is strongly curved and it's very hard to bend it as you know. I decided to saw out this part and it worked very well.

To fit the following parts were a lot easier

Another difficult part is last ledge at the stern. The ledge must be formed exactly before bonding. This approach should be used at all the parts of the planks because it's much easier.

    The current progress

The next update is coming when the Main-Wale is finished

Thanks so much for the nice comments Daniel and Nigel and also for all the likes.

    @Daniel
In terms of this Triton build the most are means the double frame is much easier than the single frame. But I believe that isn't so. I think single frame have a great vantage, to get the right shape of the hull is much easier than in double frame. Although single frame is more time consuming. In relation of the optic I'm with you.

    Hello Guys

Here's a little update of my build. I install the aft Cant-Frames at the moment. You can see my practice of the following photos. I hate it to do the same for several hours. That's why I decided to produce a Frame, install it and than produce the next Frame and so on. At this way I had a bit of change.

To saw out the parts I use a band-saw with a special saw band for slightly curves.

I hope that the next update is showing the finish of the frame build.

    Hello Guys

Sanding needs much more time as I thought. I began to fit the stern-timbers to have some change.

Now it goes on with sanding

    Hi Guys

It's done, all the frames are fitted and even the starboard side is a bit sanded.

The next step is sanding, sanding sanding,..........oh I hate it.

    HELLO Hello!

It´s been a while since my last post but promise, promise that I´ve been working on (the Triton). It´s just that there was nothing reliable to post here.

new tools: I made a block to sand the wale out of a 25x25mm piece of pine. I also discovered a metal plate to curve the timbers. I bought it years ago by mail (not inet, nor amazon) and do not remember the address of the guy. (maybe cabrapente knows it) It is pretty useful and you avoid to have lots of jigs to get the proper curvature to the timbers, specially on the stem and stern.

    Here are the pics:

    I´ll go to next post...

Hello All and thanks for all the “likes” (12 in a month, hahaha)

Oh boy! I never thought that 60 pieces of wood would tell so much about the structure of a platform. I do know that much more of this work will be invisible with the other decks but do not not how, I keep keeping the things not simple.

It is quiet easy to get lost if you are trying to actually build the whole inner structure of the ship, so where do you stop detailing the different rooms…?

For the spirituous drinks and the fish* I thought that was odd to have such a reliable source in touch with the limber water… rats, fungus, dark water… So I have decided to make 3 separate rooms for all of this. Like that we were talking about the powder room on the magazine.

Here are the pics; there are lots of them from the beginning.

I ended using pieces of paper to find out the shape of the bulkhead, easier and cheapier and I ran out of balsa wood.

Here´s a lot of work between the pics above and the rest of the post but no pics of it... we are talking about 60 pieces that took me almost a week...

Here´s the magazine where I´ll move now. Just to check. The rooms and departments kind of scare me,,, how many pieces will be involved?...

Need to buy a better camera...

(*) FISH: Got a question to you, Do you think it was a room for fresh fish or salad fish? If it is salad I´ll leave the bulkhead like that but if it´s fresh I´ll have to double the bulkhead with 40mm plank (for real) on both sides (2 or 3 planks).

On another side, I have decided to dedicate 1 week to the Triton an one to the CAD on the Principe De La Paz because otherwise I´m not going to be able to end none of them…No rush in this hobby…

Best wishes and happy winter! Viva J.C. Fogerty and his CCR!!!

    Daniel.

    So...

I re-do the limber strake. I cut it to kind of square the timber using a sharp blade and some chisels. I also glued a 1x1 mm strip to simulate the step where the covers of the limber go. It has been a surgery work and really a pain on the neck.

I need a proxxon mill or something to reach that kind of detail, who knows... next project maybe.

All this work had to be done to start with the interior working. Right now I am dealing with the hooks and the "mast bases"

    Part 92 – Main Deck Framing 3

Framing of the main deck continues from forward and aft.  Additional operational features are also being installed.  In the first picture the topsail sheet bits  and two round openings for the anchor chain chutes  are installed.  The samson post is being glued in place toward the bow.

This very large timber extends up above the forecastle deck.  It will support the lever arms for the anchor chain winch located on the main deck just below the forecastle break.  The levers were operated from the forecastle.

Working just one step behind the drafting sometimes causes problems.  The next picture shows the step for the main capstan, which I neglected to install when framing the middle deck.

The decking between the two hatches and the middle bay of framing had to be removed and reworked to include support carlings and the square step itself.

The next picture shows the extent of the main deck framing at that time – a few days ago.

The next picture is a different view.  The three rows of carling under the deck cabin can be clearly seen in this picture.  The cabin will extend some distance further aft than the beams installed here.

The next picture shows some additional progress on the aft part of the main deck.

The members that will support the capstan on the main deck have been installed including two large support carlings.  The design of these supports and the step is speculative.  It will soon be time to make the smaller forward water tank and install both iron tanks while there is still access.  The bilge suction pipes will also need to be installed soon.

The next picture was taken while I could still place a smaller camera on the middle deck.  The view is forward along the middle deck

In the foreground is the main hatch and the bilge pipe openings.  The dark areas along the waterways are shadows of the deck beams.

The last picture is one of those scary close-ups taken through one of the view ports.

This was taken at F8 – the smallest aperture on the smaller camera - so the foreground is out of focus, but the detail of the knees on the middle deck framing can be clearly seen – also a scarph jint in the deck clamp.
