Had to take a break around the holidays. Father in law is 81 years old and has Parkinsons. He went into the hospital with Bladder stones and ended up having an aneurysm of the kidney and then getting pneumonia. Between medical problems myself and his I've had no time for myself. Oh yeah there's work in there too. ugh. Can't wait till retirement.

So only a final sanding then paint but I decided to do some decking first. I am not bending the boards well when it’s on the flat side I cut the top rail every few cm to work and will sand smooth

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the feedback and resources. I finished the sanding to 600 and like it. I’m going to fix the bow where it broke and finalize the stern then paint. I will take your suggestions in consideration. I have a weathered green copper paint I’m considering for the bottom. The information for the lifeboats was immensely helpful. Thanks a lot

So after first sanding. Gonna do one coat of filler then paint. Still lots of work before then though. Made a lot of mistakes making it harder and requires more sanding than I should do but I’m liking my first build.

I started going into the office a few da,yes a week and I’ve been really busy but i story to do a little everyday. My first planking is going well. Not right but we’ll. I’ve learned so much. I’m going to finish this one and think about looks and try to do my best but I’ve given up on too much historical accuracy for this one. Just for fun. Here is where I’m at. And before anyone points it out I figured out I did it the hard way. Bottom first them top down is going to make meeting in the middle hard. Next time find the waterline first. Lol. going to use a dreamer and fit the bottom to fit the last row. still needs lots of sanding. The wood I bought from Modelers central is so much better and harder than the kit.

So I recently started modeling and am on my first build (see the build logs for me) and I've been trying to find wood. I've found plenty of places to get wood in raw form but as I'm new I do not have a shop full of power tools and neither can I spend the money right now to get them. So I wanted to buy wood in precut lengths for my build. I found Modelers Central (https://www.modelerscentral.com/) and found their wood to be very reasonably priced and they have tons of extras for model building like anchors, barrels and much more. This isn't a testimonial really as much as has anyone else used them before. The site doesn't really say it but they are based in Australia so I've no idea how long it will take to get me the wood but the shipping costs was under 20$ and that includes insurance. Once I get my two orders I'll post a review but wanted to see if anyone else has anything to say about them. They seem to have tons of models from dozens of manufacturers.

Wow. Thank you very much. I can’t do much about the scale of the plates but I’ll do my best to work with the color. Thank you so much. Greatly appreciated.

I do understand and agree but this is my first build and I’m learning. I really appreciate your comment. Helps me think about how I should be thinking when building.

It’s going slowly. I’m going to sand it smooth and stain it. I think it’s going to give me the look I’m after.

I started the outer hull and decided to do something different. I found some paintings and I noticed on the larger museum models that the hull below the water line is a brick pattern. I’m not sure why other than it may have been easier to maintain and replace individual boards. I like the look and was thinking of mimicking it using paint but then remembered I’m not worried how long it takes so I bundled some wood and cut some small pieces this is what I’m left with. It will take a long time to finish but I’m hopeful it will give me the pattern I like. thoughts

So I finished the first hull and applied some mud. Before any of you comment I’ve already done a rough sanding and, yes there is a lot of mud remaining. I treated this like the first time I primed a car. I applied tooo much mud and plan to sand..... a lot. After I get it smooth and the shape fine tuned I will apply the outer hull. In the meantime I began cutting the decking for the main deck. I bundled them together after cutting to ensure they sanded to the same dimension.

Mainly the painting and overall appearance. I've decided to put a strip of stained walnut around the top of each to outline the area and provide a separation between the two colors. I also drilled out the portholes to give them depth and will pain the porthole surround a metal color. I'll post pics when it's done but it's like watching paint dry......litterally

Planking continues and I learn a little more each day. This model is definitely hard for a first timer but I’m enjoying it. Haven’t looked at the plans in two day. Lol. I’m experimenting with the deck houses and not happy at this point but I’ll keep you posted.

So I’m continuing with the first planks. It’s slow work so I’m also working on the deck houses. The walnut decking is pretty rough around the edges so I bundled them and sanded them lightly. I’m still working on the rear deck house but I finished the front and will paint and stain soon.

I worries at all. As a matter of fact you’ve helped a lot. Since it’s all on building a clipper I don’t consider it hijacking. Rather just sharing more info. Good luck

Building a cutter on my formal dining room table now. Admiral actually endorsed it when I offered to support her jewelry making. Welcome
