  1. Thanks for all the information, and Jaager you are correct, I'm a newbie at this hobby. I'm currently building the Bluenose II hobby kit from Artesania Latina.  Some of the pieces I'm trying to cut are a little larger in size, 3 to 5mm and I'm finding it hard to get a clean cut with a scalpel.  I thought that you more experienced folks might have some form of mini saws that I should have in my tool collection.  Sorry if I seem a little naïve but as I say I am a newbie.  Thanks for all the comments.

OK so that didn't turn out too bad. I might have been better using thread and tying them but I will go with this.

Here is where I am at so far with things mounted on the deck.

Paul the railing on the aft deck has a cut away which instructions say is 59mm long. Does the cut away face inwards or outwards?  Instructions don't really show it.

  3. I've been building the Bluenose II and found the best way forward is to read instructions a bit ahead of where you are currently, that way you can decide on what tools or supplies you need and get them before you need them.  I find a lot of what I need on Amazon.  If you buy only what you think you'll need next you won't waste money on stuff you don't use.  Just a thought.

  4. New to this site and not sure if this is how to start a build log.  If I'm doing something wrong please advise me for future postings.  Below are pictures of my progress so far.  Slow but sure as I have never built a wooden model before.  I do have a question regarding the bow.  Do I file the front supports down to the shape of the ship or are they needed in future?  Pic's in instructions doesn't show what to do.

Will be starting the deck planks soon.

I’d welcome advice on painting if anybody want to offer it.

I'm planning on using acrylic paints( either Tamiya or Vellijo. I also have some sanding sealer. Is it ok to use the sanding sealer then paint the acrylic directly over that? Or is some other primer required?

Also, I think Santa might be bringing an airbrush, so tips on that welcome too.
