  1. Great detail on those oars! Place holder: When you get to the Pram: I am working on the rudder hardware now. The straps are a bear to bend cleanly. Maybe someone here in the forums has broken the code but I am thinking of using a light card stock for the straps. If you stick with the brass, on the pintles think about making the bend first then gluing the inserts in...my glued inserts popped out during the bend. Observation: When it comes to dropped objects, gravity is inversely proportional to age. The older you are the farther tiny things bounce. (lost one of the straps during the bending struggle)
  2. Yep, that's looking right handsome. Truth be told I am disappointed in the Bluejacket dory. Expectation management. That is my first bluejacket kit and I expected more given their prices. I am also looking to do a cat boat someday but Bluejacket's is a little big for my taste. The Norwegian Pram is a good size/scale for me.
  3. I just restarted this hobby and got the MS three boat kit. I finished this dory a couple weeks ago and agree its a beauty. I liked it so much I bought the bluejacket version (larger size). I am about half done with the bluejacket and so far I like the MS version better. The smaller size seems to give the detail more emphasis and makes it less crude looking. And I really like your Leggo idea...could have used it on the bluejacket frames! My sailing pram is about 90% done and is also a nice looking kit. Both those kits improved my painting technique.
  4. CaptD Here's what I did to get back in the water. I did some small boat kits. MS had a good price on a three boat set a couple months back. I was attracted to the "working boat" category and the simple, straight forward builds of these kits allowed me to ease back in. I have since bought several more skiff and working boats as well as the MS Mayflower kit. My plan from here is to start the Mayflower but do the smaller kits as I wait for glue/paint to dry and as a change of pace. So it goes. DBW
  5. Idea here is to paste steps from the instructions and check them off as completed. (still debating on whether to do this hard copy only) Introduction: Recently finished MS Dory kit, 90% done with MS sailing skiff, 50% done with Bluejacket Dory. Looking to build the Mayflower as a tribute/gift to my brother who is proud of our Pilgrim heritage. My Swift "build" (my other thread) is in Hanger Queen status about 30% done🏗️) MS= Model Shipways Start date: TBD (awaiting model delivery...shooting for mid April) To begin, remove the false keel (bulkhead former) and lightly sand its edges (At the Bearding Line) Reduce the thickness of the bulkhead former gradually to 3/32” wide.
  6. On Again Off again build. 15 April 2021 sanding and filling gaps first layer of Hull planking. I find the instructions to be minimal. In an earlier phase of build, I missed that Bulwark planking and stern planking are different. Not all the different planks were separated in the kit...easy to miss a slight change in width. Enjoying the build despite minimalist instructions/photos. 4 April 23 Just a place holder for the "Hangar Queen" Have not worked on it for months and Mayflower is looming so this is just a gentle admonishment recognizing she needs to be finished.
