  1. Good to be back in the garage building again. Weather in Florida is cooling a bit.
  2. Got this 2 inch mini cut-off saw from Harbor Freight - made it better by mounting it to a base and adding a fence
  3. Even got the "Little People" accessory kit. As small as these are it should be a real challenge to paint them.
  4. Back again with another project. Previous builds: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/32465-danmark-by-capnjack43-finished-billing-boats-175/ https://modelshipworld.com/topic/32238-new-bedford-whaleboat-by-capnjack43-finished-model-shipways-116/ https://modelshipworld.com/topic/32369-uss-lexington-by-capnjack43-finished-mamoli-1100/ https://modelshipworld.com/topic/34792-america-1851-by-capnjack43-finished-scientific-models/ https://modelshipworld.com/topic/32463-model-ship-building-slip/ https://modelshipworld.com/topic/35472-rattlesnake-by-capnjack43-model-shipways-164-american-privateer/ After building three rigged ships I was looking for something a little different this time so here it goes with the "King of the Mississippi.
  5. Rattlesnake is finally completed along with a showcase made of 1x2 pine and plexiglass. The rigging plan on this ship leaves a lot to be desired. It would have been better if they had divided it into two sheets one for the standing rigging and another for the rest. I have given away 4 out of the 5 that I have built to my Kids and only kept the Danmark so as not to turn our home into a nautical museum. All in all I had a good time building it, but now comes the time to decide what is next. Special thanks go's out to Kenneth Powell for the great detail pics of his built that came in handy when the plans were lacking.
  6. Reversing some masking tape on a block of wood makes a handy place to stick the rigging blocks while the glue dries.
  7. A block of wood with an alligator clip holds a small square of wax paper making a handy glue pot, just drill a small indentation in the wood.
  8. Came up with an easy way to rig the deadeyes that were close to the hull making it impossible to get a needle threader between the deadeye and the hull. Just tie a 3 or 4 inch loop with a knot at the end then use the needle threader to pull the loop outward, then use the loop to pull in the line that has to go through. Here are a couple of pics of it.
  9. Footropes are completed and yardarms are attached - made a jig to hang the yardarms from with alligator clips this works to help level them and keeps them in position while the glue dries.
  10. Making slow progress working on the rigging when time permits, Ratlines are finally done & don't want to see another clove hitch for a while. Had some railing posts and brass left over from the Danmark and used them on the mast platforms. Netting was from a flower arrangement donated by the first mate.
  11. White card stock placed behind the shrouds makes tying the clove hitches for the ratlines easier to see. Hope to get going on the remaining ratlines soon.
