  1. And so it is finished with the completion of the stand. Very happy with the final outcome. Nowhere near the level of builds on this site, but my aim for my first attempt was to get something presentable and learn some skills along the way. Thanks to all who gave advice and encouragement through likes on the posts, it's appreciated.
  2. Getting close to the end of this build. Only the stand to make and the flag to add. I have certainly learnt a lot along the way which I can apply to my future builds. I have the Amati Fifie waiting to be unboxed, but upcoming holidays, work and some renovation work in the house may delay the start of the next project. Thanks for the help and likes along the way. Here are a couple of photos of how the endeavour is looking. I'll add a few final ones once I have completed the final few bits and bobs and tidied up my workshop.
  3. Now that my rigging line has arrived, I'm switching between rigging while paint dries on the oars I built earlier. Main sail now attached to the boom and the mast. Plenty more rigging to complete, but it's starting to look better with each addition. Only another 20 pages to go in the instructions to complete it.
  4. Whilst waiting on the new rigging line to arrive, I decided to crack on with the oars. Drilling the holes in the shafts and handles was tricky, but I think I got them reasonably centred starting with a 0.5mm drill bit and working my way up to 0.8mm and 1.5mm. Getting tempted to purchase a small lathe to get better results. Need to figure out how much I would use on going forward before I take the plunge. Any suggestions for EU suppliers greatly welcomed. Have the oars assembled and I think they turned out OK. A bit more sanding before paint will help.
  5. Finally managed to get some time working on the endeavour after a couple of weekends redecorating the living room. My lack of attention has led to me trying to mount the main sail backwards. I thought something was wrong with it, but it wasn't until I tried to attach it to the mast my error became exceedingly obvious. To make matters worse, I'm nearly out of the thin rigging line. I have more on order but it will be a few days before I get it delivered. Oh well, I suppose the gives me time to undo my mistake. Lesson learnt. Check and double check before building
  6. Allan, Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look to see what I can get for the next model. It has to be better than the kit supplied sails Thanks Richie
  7. Thanks for the kind words and likes jpalmer1970. It certainly seems from the various build logs and the photos of your endeavour build (which looks brilliant by the way) that AT have updated their model kit.
  8. After a bit of a delay I'm finally getting started on the rigging and sails. I forgot how much I dislike threading needles. Even with magnification it takes me ages, so progress will be slow.
  9. I have progressed getting the masts installed Rigging has started. Enjoying it so far, but I haven't got to the tricky parts or the repetition yet
  10. I have finally managed to get back to building my Longboat after spending the last week building my hobby zone building slip for the Amati Fifie which is waiting in the shipyard. Now that I'm back to building the Longboat I have managed to complete the rudder assembly. A little bit of paint required to finish it. I have started drilling out the holes for eyelets in preparation for the rigging. The 0.5mm holes went OK, but I haven't tried installing the eyelets yet 😁
  11. Allan, Many thanks for nice comments. I can only assume that the single thole pin worked similar to the picture below. I have noticed some of the earlier builds of this kit (2014) have double pins though, so not how historically accurate this one is. Richard
  12. Some of the mast supports now added. Have checked the mast fitting multiple times and it seems like everything lines up. I have noticed that I have a slight twist to the keel near the stern when fitting a few of the trim pieces. Thought I was careful when installing the keel and frames, but must take better care the next time. On to some of the deck fittings now before the masts and rigging start in ernest.
  13. Work station setup looks great. I'm interested to see how you get on with the model and will follow along for the build
  14. Deck planking is now complete and it's had one coat of WOP. Pretty pleased with how it's coming together. Certainly a steep learning curve to date.
