Right now im a pretty novice builder, so im asking this so I dont need to do this later. What kind of masking tape do you use, store bought or special tape for models? What paints do you use, I know its mostly acrylics but is it modeling paint (like Occre or Tamiya) or woodworking paint. Do I need to prime the hull of my ship before painting or is it just fine to immediatly start painting with base paint and the putting on other layers? As I continue building ships I really want them to turn out as best as I can make them, Il be grateful for any tip or answer you leave here.

So I bought this kit inexpensive kit from Ali Express just to learn planking before starting a more serius project. Anyways I glued the bulwarks to the keel, glued the planks and sanded the hull. For a first try at planking Im happy with how the hull turned out. Any tips and and constructive criticism would be appreciated.

My second model just got recently delivered, its nothing special just a classic fishing boat. I ordered it from ali express for 10€ to learn planking before tackling the Bounty launch by Occre. I wont be making a build log because this kit isnt made by any known company but I will post regular updates about the build. Wish me luck.

So I finally finished it. I actually finished it this summer, but I forgot to publish it, im happy with how the model turned out. I used brown acrylic paint to darken the masts, I just diluted it with some water. But now I have a dillema, should I build a solid hull ship again or a plank on plank one. I really like Bounty launch from Occre because its advertised for beginners, its in my budget and its a large model for just 70€, I want to start out on this one because in the future I really want to build Coca from Amati and Llaut and Sloup from Correl.

Yes, the wood its made of is really light, and if I place it like that it will ruin the model, so I need to darken it.

The entire deck is finished, barrels are tied down, I glued down the cabin and storage openings, I painted the inside of bulwarks, and added the anchor. The paint on the hull is a bit messy because of the masking tape I used, but I think it looks alright, this is my first kit after all. Right now all its left is to make a rudder, the mast and connect the sail. Also I need some sugestions on which wood coating should I use since the wood for the whole sail rig is really light, and if I leave it like that its going to look ugly.

Deck and the sides are finally finished, I primed the hull and glued on all the strips that went on the bulwarks. So the first page of the instructions is finished, and now comes probably the most involved part of the kit, adding structures to the deck.

Its been a while since I posted but, I managed to build and sand the keel and plank the deck. As for those holes in the keel I filled them with scrap wood and just sanded it to fit in the groove, it may not look the best but couple coats of primer and paint will hide it. Now im wondering: do I varnish the deck first, and varnish should I use, because there are a lot of components that will be glued on the deck or do I continue building the ship and varnish the deck later?

Just started building the keel today, Ive followed the instructions and cut pieces to the picture, and when I assembled the keel there was this rather large hole on the stern of the ship. I didnt glue the together keel, and I need sugestions on how to fill that hole

I ve read the instrunctions, and they dont use the waterline as a guide, but the first page tells me to paint the part below the waterline with varnish.

So I took advice from you guys and made a build log, so far I managed to build a stand because I still dont have the right tools for the ship, and I really dont want to mess it up. Anyways I dont have a waterline marker yet, so should I start building the keel or plank it first?
