    It's funny how if you don't show AI what the back side of something looks like, then it just starts making up whimsical stuff... But as they say, garbage in, garbage out...

    Being Devil's Advocate here - at what point do we quit modeling altogether and just make scale 3D prints of ships/models?

    I looked closer at my set of Smithsonian plans and a hole above the gun port is clearly shown with a cleat on the inner bulwark to belay the line. In my build, there is even less room below the rail. I'm curious how pulling that line straight back would open or even hold open a port, but will build it as shown in the plan...

    If it were mine, I'd get it somewhere warm and wait. Anything you do while it is sticky would likely be just more of a mess.

    With Gun Port lids such as these, do you all think the lines would have just gone over the rail and belay inside? There is no room to drill a hole above the port lids, and I don't think the geometry would hold the port up either...

    I purchased and started this model many years ago. It is my first wood model, and I put it away as I didn't have the time while working. Retired now and started working on her again. I love the looks of the Prince and also her amazing history. The photos show where I am, and I am starting to build the masts and bow sprit now. Any comments appreciated - I have already learned so much from viewing the works of others on this site. Thanks, Keith

    I read somewhere (of course I can't remember where) that flush deck ships like the Prince wouldn't have had porthole lids. They are included in the Model Shipways directions but it I'd be happy to know that is correct not to have them! This is my first wood ship model and I wouldn't have got this far without this great group! Especially posts from Bob's (Rafine) build blog. Thanks all ~ Keith
