have a look on the model shipyard website : http://www.modelshipyard.com.au/
i have seen the tool Vince is using on there
-
welcome Sjors,John and Jeff
Sjors i had contacted the seller before to make sure they will get any missing parts . They where fine with that but said it could take a while as they have to rely on importer and OcCre but i wont be starting her yet anyway
and i hope i wont be pushing your patience for when i actualy start the build as i have to finish of the King first and be well on my way with the endeavour before i cna make room for her on my workbench

i left work a bit early to pick up the box
started on checking and counting all pieces
how that is going you can read in the buildlog i started :

Box arrived today
as you can see the boxes (2 on top of eachother) are quit damaged as was mentioned by the seller.
at first glance none of the pieces inside are damaged . mostly due to the fact that there is plenty of space in the boxes and everything actualy fits in one box
as usual i started with markign and counting the parts
OcCre does not make this easy as there are 2 seperate numberings going from 1 to over 200 with some parts coverd in both numberings
after a first count of premade wood and metal parts i have 1 part missing and 2 others lacking the needed quantity
i wil let the store wher i bought it know and that i will email them a detailed describtion of the missing parts this weekend
the instructions consists of a booklet with colour pictures covering the hul and deck furniture assembly (first numbering)
the book wiht the text going with these pictures is in spanish so i wil need to see if an english translation is available (if not with online translators and a bit of understanding of the language i have i should get a decent translation myself)
finaly there are 23 A3 plans stapled together covering masts and rigging (the second numbering)
both instructions seem to be an improvement from the AL instructions i have seen so far but the double numbering is a bit stupid

glad i found this log too
its good to hear these stories from peolpe that experienced the war and to let us know how much suffering it has brought on both sides
i l be following your build with the others
-
someone suggested this before :
they should bring out their models in parts :
something like hull, deck furniture(basic but right scale) ,rigging, sails, display.
you can buy each individual but also have all parts in a full model box
-
wow i finaly caught up totaly with your build
its so much fun watching a ship come together and the detail that goes into it
and getting to know that each plank and part has its own name
-
it seem Aus post tried to deliver the parcel this morning
didnt expect to be here already
i ll probably have to wait till saturday to pick it up
-
hi Terry
there are a few of us that are or have build the king of the mississippi .
are you planning on starting a buildlog ?
-
with the AL endeveour to instructions show how to assemble the pumps from wooden pieces with only the handle cast while they put precast pumps with the kit which btw is the same as was in the virginia kit which is a different scale

thanks for the nice comments geoffrey and robbyn
i choose this one because after my first small build i wanted to have a bit more wood working experience before starting on a bigger fully rigged ship
adding the lights was a bit of challenge after seeing carlosys model but its actualy not too difficult

HI Bill
i like to keep the curve at the top. i got an idea in my head that i ll try out over the weekend
i have done a few more windows and dit a bit more planking
all holes are now almost to the correct size so only a bit of sanding should make the windows fit
i did the same for the windows on one of the curved walls.
-
hope you do
you know even when things dont go well with my build i am still in control of it, something i cant say about the rest of my life
i just put the problem aside work on something else and then you usualy find a solution (sometimes with the help of MSW)
-
unless you sell the original . you can make a profit out of that
on the other side if i copied a dvd and gave it for free for to all my friends i would not make a profit (unless you count having a whole bunch of good friends a profit ) but stil infringe on the copyright
-
Thanks Dan
i ll have a look and see how much shipping costs are
nvm they are on their front page : $9
-
thanks Mark
i doubt that this would go for all countries
-
just a question jeff
you say when you buy a legal copy of let say a video dvd (lets say a how to on planking) you are alowed to display (play) it ?
i assume that only goes for home use and not to use it for commercial purposes ?
-
hmm modelship yard is pretty expensive
almost $64 for the master cutter
it doesnt have anything to cut identical lenghts and its not very wide so yuo can t add your own contruction for that
-
i try to make time as even 20 minutes building or just going over the next thing to do, makes me relax and i can cope with another day of work
-
thanks Dan
i ll have a look at modellers shipyard to see if they have it
-
thanks Sjors and Wim
not much time today for building but i finished another 4 windows almost half way
-
what i would try is get 2 baswood strips of the same width and put the piece between them (maybe a smal bti of glue) so you end up with a 5x5 dowel
then soak in hot water for a bit and bend
