Absolutely amazing persistence and dedication. I now have my model and of coarse I will be studying your log and using it as my guide. Once I get the frames started, I will begin my log. What an inspiration!

Again, thanks to you. Yes, once I get myself organized, I will drum up the courage and log my Oneida adventure. I noted in your log, you were able to get the Pear for the frames. When I ordered, that option wasn't there but I will say that the maple has a nice creamy tone to it, so it should work out fine. I sent an email to the Smithsonian to see if their mail order operation was available - I didn't get a reply so I will assume no. Hopefully, the detail needed from the large plans won't be needed until I get the hull framed. Thanks in advance for your willingness to answer questions!

Ron, You certainly are the consummate perfectionist. The model looks so flawless and clean. I received my Oneida last week and was informed by the L u m b e r Y a r d that this is the last shipment from them until the things open up. With that, I now feel compelled to begin myself, especially since you have provided such an excellent log to be used as a reference. Question: How beneficial was having the Smithsonian 1/4" scale plans? I have Chapelle's American Sailing Navy book that has the Oneida drawings. I'll send away for them anyhow although I doubt that they're open for business right now. Thanks, Steve

Ron, Thanks so much for your presentation as I hope to build an Oneida based on this build log. Hope you continue with the masts - just gorgeous so far. I ordered an Oneida back in January from the a wood supplier and they're a bit delayed right now. They responded to me a few weeks ago thus they are in business.

Patrick, Congratulations! I spoke to you last night at the Midwest meeting as I'm the "new guy" there. What a wonderful group. Hi, I'm Steve and I hope to get back into this wonderful world of model ship building art. Actually, I've been lurking through this site for quite a few years and now that I'm finally retired and have some time on my hands (I think!), I'd like to get back into it. I completed a Constructo model of the Great Republic way back when I was in high school (in the 60's) but could never get the time to complete another. Quite a few starts but got discouraged as they didn't turn out the way I wanted and they ended up in the fireplace! I've collected a closet full of models and I hope to either get one of them going or just get inspired with something new. Coming to the realization that I need to do a model of reasonable scale / size as there will be no where to put it. I'm amazed at the talent on this site & hope to contribute in some way. I've now come to the realization that my ambitions of finally completing a ship model now that I'm retired & turned 69, that it should be able to fit somewhere in the house. Thus it would need to be limited to 30" in length or less. The scale would then have to adjust to that limit - so I'm more dependent on physical size than scale. Thus I would guess 3/16 +/- 1/16th.
