Ed Saur reacted to uss frolick in Vintage/Near Vintage Kit Worth
I like the old, solid hull MS kits from the pre-POB laser days (the early 1980's). I have a 3/16" Fair American (exact same size as the new POB 1/4" version!), and the 1/8" Essex. I've always wanted to pick up the Solid Hull 3/16th Rattlesnake, not for investments, just for fun. I've always wanted to try planking over a solid hull.

Ed Saur got a reaction from Archi in 17th century ships
Aeropiccola manufactured 3 inexpensive kits that I've built: HMS Prince, HMS Seraphis and Nonsuch.
All three used hot-pressed sawdust-glue (looked like cooked waffles) to make the good-looking, detailed sterns and other decorations.
Not being metal but thermoplastic stuff, I could use a hair dryer warm up and press fit the gun port wreaths to the shape of the hull sides.

Dan,
That is my favorite plan. I have it on my office wall.
Everybody,
Would these sorts of sterns be doable, at say 5" in height, in one piece using resin or 3d printing by a kit company?
And what various ways can the painted items above and between the cannon ports best be created?
Decals, printed paper or going to 2 years of art school?
Finally, how to create the globular stern lanterns?

Chas,
Daniel Dusek is about to release the Statenyacht Utrecht which is a model of a 17century type.
You are right in saying this area is underserved.
Let us keep up the huzzah, especially for larger models of smaller ships.

There appears to be a shortage of smaller mid 17th century ship kits or plans. I would like to source plans or kits for vessels similar to the full rigged Martin 1653 6th rate. (see attached image). Corel's Peregrine galley comes close but I would prefer a larger scale model. Sergal's Peregrine is larger but is more of an early 18th century representation

Thanks for notice Ulises Victoria, these big models will follow later. I think there will be more models like the Royal Luis which will need some adjustments.
Bill-I know that some of the Mamoli models are not historicaly accurate but some people like it so until there will be interest I will produce them (just economy). Today everyone have enought information too choose models after their own opinion and preference, someone like historical accuracy, someone like models more like decoration.

Hello,
Dirk-yes I will use it as a master for resin casting (actually not this one because this one will be on prototype model of ST ) so I have to print one another figurehead.
Sjors-do not worry, I know that you was joking
Ron-Actualy I think that the nails was knock so hardly that the plates look like have dimbles, look here for example:
http://www.boatinternational.com/yachts/news/classic-yacht-kentra-emerges-from-refit-with-rare-copper-hull--25989
http://www.tea-party-boston.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/copper.jpg
The truth is that the dimbles are not so big as in my case but it is limit of my current technology . I think smaller dots on the stamp would be too fragile.

Ed Saur got a reaction from Canute in To help kit developers and kit builders alike-What would you like to see developed for the hobby.
A idiot proof HMS Winchelsea (1764) kit by Chuck with same level of instructions as the Cheerful.
Full resin stern (?), lots of mini kits. 6-900 dollars depending on the amount scratch built.
My only caveat is; if the skill level needed is too high, I would have a hard time paying so much -- fearing failure.
