Small Stuff reacted to AON in HMS Bellerophon 1786 by AON – scale 1:64 – 74-gun 3rd Rate Man of War - Arrogant-Class
Made further progress, plotted all intersecting points for stations (2) to 30 waterlines.
Completed upper outlines at the Aft or Stern Perpendicular and sections 29 and 30.
Need to complete (2) to 28!
I will post some images when done this stage.
Meanwhile here is a picture of my CAD workstation.
Can you spot the most important tool on the desk?
If you picked the magnifying glass your wrong (it would be number 2)

Small Stuff reacted to AON in HMS Bellerophon 1786 by AON – scale 1:64 – 74-gun 3rd Rate Man of War - Arrogant-Class
Progress to date
Stations 2 to 16 yet to complete
Once this stage is done I intend to review them all together and assure their shape is consistent with the original plan (nothing looks out of place or odd).
When I am happy with this I will add an internal detail sketch (deck levels)
One step at a time ... long way to go before creating 3D part models (templates)

Small Stuff reacted to harvey1847 in HMS Triton 1773. POF. 1:48. Daniel
Hello All!
Just a small update… Lot of Works around…
I´m dealing with the Port Stern timbers. I have started with the piece #3 which I think is the most complex.
I have started cutting the patterns and glue them to a piece of wood. Then sand it using the “Stern view” first and the side one (plant) to cut it with the scroll saw. I hope the pics below will explain the process.
You can see clearly where is the error. I have been thinking about plastering that joint but I think will be better to repeat the piece.
The piece is not correct ( see pics marked with pencil) so I will have to repeat it. At least I have a “reference” piece and now I know how I have to cut it properly sand it more or less… trial and error.
Best wishes and happy modelling.
Daniel.

As I'm fed up
with the unability of my TurboCAD14 to open Daniel's drawings
I decided to buy the newest XX. edition!!!
So I did...

The section plan shows the moulds - because when I put the section ogf the hoistin apparatus under the transparant paper the sidelines crossed the inner side of the planking amd the edging of the formers!!!

Hola Amigos! (put it mexican accent like in the movies)
Well... It took me almost one month.
The worst part has been to remove all the patterns and PVA glue from the frames. I did it using just water and a brush wetting the frames (three or four at a time. Then with an x-acto blade I scrapped the glue or the pattern working extremely carefully trying not harm the wood...
here are some pics. Not in order.
I have printed out the stern timbers and the lights. That´s where I am going to move on in order to make the main wales. I am kind of following Wang´s log.
Happy Sunday!

What about if it has to do with the two pair of "dropping keels". The body plan just show us a rough idea of the hull. There must be more detailed draws from the surveyors that has been lost or simply the draws were in their brain.
Way to go!! By using spilines in CAD you can get a pretty good draw again. You can PM me with your mail and send a .pdf or .jpg and I will re-draw it for you if you want. I use AutoCAD 2011. The body plan is crucial.
Keep going!
Daniel.

I've been able to fix the first line-names tonight - picture will follow. I Think there is a failure in the printing of the plan - only visiable by these tremendous enlargements:
The redline is the BaseLine (BL) and green one the CenterLIne (CL) [the blue one shows where the plywood should end - parallel to BL octogonal to the CL]
the light-blue part of the bulwalk shouldn't "run down". Shoultn't it be maximaly rectangular to the CenterLine ???
Edit: I pictured the plan in this way to show the problem very blatant to all of you.
Greetings
Stan.

Hy colleges of the sawdust,
here the inverted drawing with a imperial and metric ruler and the detail of the lines appearence shown with a 1/2 m/m ruler for you.
And b.t.w. this i-pot cam doesn't work as well as my digicam had had done...
But as we're used to say in Germany:
"But better than nothing!"

Hello friends of the hullmodel scratchbuilding...
Due to the fact I could build a hullmodel of the schooner here my collection of pictures - that will be elaborate during the next days.
And the better detail of the bow part with a pencil to compare.
The beauty will be 900 m/m or nearly 35 1/2 inches long.

Yours,
Stan
Edit:
Adding the last two pictures showing the tremendous size of this hullmmodel and the cutting of the bowsprit.

Well,
I have a license for AutoCAD 2013 and know a bit PS. I have some time these days. So I can help you whenever you need. Just tell me what you need.
Cheers, Bugra.

Thanks Bugra for watching!
I think abaout TurboCAD but don't have any experience in CAD... but as far as I understud I can enlarge it and reduce it as I want...
That's abig sore temptation.
On the other hand I it will need time to do so - but it's much easier to undo problems as to try to redraw something running wong.

Hy Bugra, and yes -indeed Bob...
one will be a 1/32 fully rigged one for the export to Leipzig
and the larger one a 1/24 hullmodell is done here.
The 1/24will have a beam moulded by 279,4 m/m
the 1/32 scaled of only 209,55 m/m.
There will be a lot of work but alltogether the are "group of two" so I can intertransfer the results I gathered during the time of building.
Now I have to structure a scedule hat shipmodel is to built first, second, third, e.& - and finding reasons why I do it in this way. The details of the hoisting apparatus must be shown dramatically clear and fine in 1/2"=1'-0"..

Small Stuff got a reaction from mtaylor in 51 3/95 ton Revenue Cutter by Small Stuff - 1/48 - after Chapelle
Thanks Eamonn, fpr the motivation - but what I need is the possibility to put these two plans to consolidate:
Because I need one area that is found in both drawing... the easiest to find was the CWL - blue in the drawuings.
But in the sections plan it is a curved line! Nothing I've ever dealt with...
Okay,
this'll be my problem for this weekend.

I don't have a 1/48 planking or dechsplankingh plan - All I've got is the Chapell's drawing I atteched in here above. I don't trust the Corel's drawings - so I don't think I should enlarge them from 1/64 up to 1/48.
So as you told me the drawings of the Ancre Schooner will be very helpfull to me.
Here my backbone II with my first trial to place it on a stand.
Hoping you like it,

Small Stuff got a reaction from mtaylor in Licorne 1755 by mtaylor - 3/16" scale - French Frigate - from Hahn plans - Version 2.0 - TERMINATED
Mark untill I've got a lathe I can only built hullmodels - they also save space in the flat and the area at the showcases to clean is a significant smaller one.

Thanks Eamonn,
I found this in the planing stage - but if I find those many fails in the planning stage what mass is still hidden for the building part of the model??? Okay... I'll figure out those problems later...
The OUT - and INplanking drawing was a problem I never have dealing with because Tamiya hasn't got handed out such problems out to the modelbuilder. So I was shocked and found the sections are all drawn INside of the planking - so I can saw them out (when... IF my wood comes to me) by glueing a mirrowed and an original half of the sections plan together on the plywood. and I get from this drawing the dimensions of the keel wood, too. So far the INside part.
The OUTlining is only in the waterline/horizontal plan - what I only use for the arrangement of the bulkheads on the yardground/buildingboard.The brown boxes shall show the position of the bulkheads with glueingfoot on board - and the green the outlinerunning of the plankings outline. The orange shows the beveling of the bulkheads.
The planking will be a 11/2 planking - by filling the space between the bulkheads with softwood to get a glueing surface for the planking.
What is the thickness of the planking on these American Revenue Marine Cutters? Mondfeld talks only about continental and R.N. planking and Chapelle about coast crafts but U.S. R.M. shipbuilding might be diffrend. This will be important because I have bought 0,6m/m pear wood vaneer - what means 28,8 m/m in the original or 1.1338582677165354inch what seems to be a little bit skinny over the rips of the bulkheads... so I might have to add an cheapwooden "underplanking" to come to the original thickness.
Do you think I'm stilll "on a good trap" to come to a welldone solution with my planking?
.
Yours
Stan
