    stbd side gunports

All lids removed apart from two - they dont want to play my game, some de bonder needed, or bigger gun-port removal tool
old lanyard pins removed, by drilling out
About 1/3 of new lanyards made,
1.5mm holes drilled into hull to take the uplift tubes
will touch up paintwork before i start to put it all back

    good to be back

My Victory will be back on the workbench by this weekend, intentions are to get her to a masting stage by the end of the year, (well its a plan anyway)

My list of things to do in the next few weeks, lol about 100 on it -which will take me to masting

    1) finish port side gun-port lanyards and then repeat everything starboard
    2) stern and bow decoration
    3) rudder
    4) rework all davits and lower mast booms
    5) stern Gun ports (missed)
    6) find a way to re-position all top side cannons so they are not taking up deck space

    yep the BUZZ is back

Good evening everyone - oh it him again  (rework kev)

port side is npw 90% completed - again - although it does not look much different in the pictures, the difference in the Gun port lanyards is much more grey, more hemp colour than the white ish colour i used first time, hope to start the starboard side next weekend

and apologies to not reading everyone's logs in the last few weeks

    Good evening everyone

last weekend - was spent working out how much extra work would be required to complete the re work on the Gun port lanyards and weather it was actually worth it, the deciding factor was tha fact that as my lids are shut - they would make a drastic improvement - providing they were done better
over the week i sourced some bigger wire 1.5mm and as a result the bore was bigger as well so the lanyards fit in nicely

all the port side holes were redrilled to 1.5mm and then again at the angle of the lids them selfs, - it is hard to explain so i will let my latest pictures tell the story

    Good afternoon

now the mind blockage is gone, - lol i am looking for problems

i tried re-staining all the lanyards in situ - but as i have PVA glue on  them the stain did not take, so i going to rip them all out,

so in the process of making another 200 lard-yards and rings, but have now decided to create the sheaves that run through the hull as well,

    Good afternoon,
some progress on my build, the fore deck is complete with the exception of the cannons. I t has taken a little while to get back into it, not being 100% and the weather here, like in many other places has been - well  - poor

nothing is fixed into position yet, hence some bits look not quite level

    - good to be back

Continuing on with the build, I have made and installed what I believe are called the Kevels. ??

I made them in one piece instead of two.

Added the angled pieces into the railings

Referring to Fred Hocker's email to another member, I left off the Kevel on the side behind the main mast and only added 1 kevel to the quarterdeck instead of the two in the plans.

Added smaller ones to the bow railing for the anchor rigging

    Posting some more pictures!

I'm not to happy with the way these came out. I might redo them when I make the bitts.

Added the knees to the lower bow railing

    Finished Bow railing

I have finished the tops of the railings and now I will start working on the kevels.

I have finished the railing posts on both sides of the ship. I will start working on the railing tops, finishing the bow railing, and the rigging pulleys on the middle lower railings.

Continuing on, I made up a bunch of line bundles for the cannon rigging.

Rigging of cannon is finished with bundles.

I darkened and mounted the cannon into position

Made some more progress on the model!

Started work on some of the deck fittings. I cut out the slots for the sheaves and made the bottoms for the stanchions.

Now I inserted the sheaves, pinned the bottoms (to help keep them in place on the deck), gold leafed and fit the head figurines to the stanchions, and made the belay pin racks.

Some photos of the finished assembly's on the deck

Now I turned my attention to the pin rails.

Notched out the wood to fit the railing posts.

    Added belay pin holes

    Mounted over the cannon

I went back over to the stern of the ship to tidy up a few loose ends.

Installed the curved pieces above the center ornamentation.
Then I gold leafed the two tall figurines and attached to the ship.

Added the figurines to the lower part under the galleries.

I decided to add the small railing around the opening to the lower deck
and leave off the stern railings (in front of the mizzen mast) that the Corel kit called for.

    Stanchions pinned to deck.

    Finished railing

Now turning my attention to the channels!

    Thanks,

Working on the Capstan. I drilled out the holes of the Corel Capstan and squared them up.

Installed the base for the capstan

I removed the large base from the Corel capstan, added the 6 vertical pieces and shaped in-between.

Installed the capstan to the base

    Finished capstan

I took the Corel chainplates and modified them using Michael's technique with the J-B Weld product mentioned above.
I never used this product before, but I found that once it dried, the chainplates were very flexible and the product was able to be sanded easily. The only problem I ran into was drilling the holes for the nails. If I did not clamp the chainplates before drilling, the J-B Weld would split apart.

The J-B Weld product applied and then let dry for 24 hours

Chainplates with the J-B Weld product sanded down flat

Bending of the chainplates into the rough shape

    Test fitting onto ship channels

Once they were fitted, I took them off, drilled the nail holes, painted the chainplates, then glued and nailed to ship

Now onto the other side to repeat the process. After I will add the rings for the blocks and the finish wood piece for the face of the channels.

    Thanks,

    Frank

I now started to work on the channels.

I made new ones out of walnut, with pins to help with the mounting.

The mizzenmast channels and mainmast channels mounted to the ship

    The foremast channels:

    Another view

I am starting to work on the deadeyes and chainplates.
    I will give Michael's (md1400cs) method a try.
In his log he showed us how he used the "J-B Weld" product to help modify the chainplates that came with the Corel kit.
Hopefully I can make mine look as good as his!

    Thanks,
    Frank

Finish planking of lower hull using mahogany strips

I veneered the keel with lighter mahogany wood and then I sanded and coated the entire Hull with a satin sanding sealer

Framed the gun ports and added the partial carriages

Overlap the upper planks near the stern

    Adding the False Deck

Finishing the first layer of planking

For the second layer of planking I selected and cut some darker Walnut wood for contrast on the wales.

I soaked the planks in a 50/50 mix of ammonia and water, then bent the planks and glued after drying.
