Kevin got a reaction from Edwardkenway in Stage Coach 1848 - Artesania Latina - 1/10 - by Kevin - July 2021 - finished March 2022
good evening everyone
i have a problem (or maybe i am the problem) is the doctor still around?
my desire to get on with the Enterprise is making me want to put this away, which is a shame, does anyone else suffer from that, or is it that i am spoilt for choice,
anyway i did a few bits but moved on the the soft furnishings
the coach internal has to seats either end and a bench through the middle 2 + 3 + 2 and two up top
these were fun to make up, but the nail heads do detract the final finish, i am trying to dull them down

thank you, the kit provides for the window blinds and lettering, in fact the kit does a good set up - but as i have found in the past AL does provide poor strip-wood
lamps are also included, powered by a 9 volt battery, but they look over sized

well i finished the out side coach work, that was actually quite enjoyable, YES it could have been a lot lot tidier but it is being covered over

how was the wooden body protected, was it varnish, and if so, would a high gloss been available, as that is what if fancy putting on?
and thank you for your wealth of knowledge on the subject

Good evening everyone
well the inside has bee lined and the floor has been done onto a template, go in later when i have varnished it
this evening i started the outside bulking out the side panels in 2x5mm strip wood, this will then be faired off
this is from the instructions on how to achieve the fairing

good afternoon everyone
the outside skin never went quite to plan, all my efforts to put it on straight resulted in well, it not going on straight, i ended up with a rather odd looking twisted box. one end was ok. so i but line across and removed the other end, re applied and it is ok now,
i never noticed it the time as there is a large off cut to allow for being off centre
the walnut veneer is slowly going in, but its a pain, so fragile
the photo's do me no favours at all
the ok end
and the not so ok

the kit calls out for the yellow on the sides only not the top or bottom, i tried to match the yellow as best i could on the box art and phots, but they all vary,

Kevin reacted to chris watton in Chris Watton and Vanguard Models news and updates
Just been working away on my two new prototype (well, pre-prototypes) fishing boats. Thought I'd share some (bad) pics. They are now both double planked, with decks in place along with the bulwark timber frames.
Nisha, the smaller vessel, has just had her gunwale fitted, with Erycina (the larger, ex cutter turned fishing ketch) about to have hers fitted.
I have gone a little further with these, compared to the Fifie and Zulu, with the outer bulwarks pre cut and etched (as well as the inner bulwarks, which have the timberhead positions pre etched). So planking starts at just below deck level. They are also easier to plank.
I note that some who built the Fifie and Zulu added detail below the main deck, so with these two, I have included the lower deck platform to the correct height, and included ladders for the companionways, if you wish to show companion door open.
Pic not great, and builds are quick and a little rough but these, like my Sphinx pre-prototype are 'throw away' models, and used only to make sure designs work as they should, and change where required. The real prototypes will be made later, once I am happy the designs are nailed down, which is now pretty close. No varnish applied, and both have just been sanded, so look a little dusty.
As with the Fifie and Zulu, they will have optional pre made sail sets, 4 for Nisha and 5 for Erycina.
Oh, I used that flexible masking tape for the white boot topping, it was great!

i never thought that the box art would add so much to the cost of a kit, this could be another way ahead for others to copy (you certainly are leading the way ahead in the wired clan) lol

good morning everyone
the chassis work is coming to an end with the exception of the wheels
the carriage suspension is in place, but the the restrain bars still need to be fitted, these stop the whole top part moving forward/backways and collapsing
from these suspension arm, i then made up the brackets that takes the banding to which the carriage sits on, im bit confused what this was made off, the kits wants me to make it from wood, and i presume to paint it so its looks like metal, how ever the Model Trailways kits shows it as being leather like
i adapted the brake lever to raft join again, it is now feasable that the lever can be moved to moved the raft to create friction on the wheels#

good evening everyone
quite a bit done to the chassis today, although you wont believe it
the brass round will eventually be bent and attached to the handbrake lever, however the way the kit wants me to join them to the raft made me look at alternatives, but there would need to be more room required to achieve it so i came up with my own idea, which is tidier and looks better
the lever moves this raft which in turn creates friction on the wheels to slow them down
these bits of brass sandwich the raft which is tidier then a 1mm hole to attach
carriage suspension
each corner has a vertical metal bandings and has taken some time to get right
two metal strips are turned at one end, and fixed to the frame the other, a folded bands secures them, and a rod stops them from collapsing
still very much work in progress

good evening everyone
never got quite as much done today, as the wife walked out on me
when i say the wife walked out on me that not quite what happed, for a start she got in a car, not walked, and it was our car, and i was driving, and i knew where she was going, oh and she comes back Tuesday
the horse is still being worked on, but already i am changing things
one of better rebates
the instructions call out for a simple 3 sided brace but looking through other logs i am going with a full brace
