Not posted much lately as i'm still working on the rats, in fact i've taken some of them off again. I now must have tied 14 million clove hitch's on this model with still 20 million still to do.

I'll give it a go and see what it looks like, I can work round the rigging I have already done. This way when you start it will give you a better idea.

Hi Hamilton, I think it is possible to rig the cannons, they might be tight towards the bow. I havent done it just because I didnt want it overcrowded, but it will probably look ok. I'd say give it a go and see how it starts to look as you progress. The plans dont show any rigging for the cannons but the pic on the box does.

The Solomon Browne's coxswain Trevelyen Richard refused to take on board more than one member of the same family when they reported for duty such was the atrocious conditions at sea. What guts, he must have known this was no ordinary rescue attempt.

I cant believe it is over 30 years since this disaster happened. All hands were lost as the Penlee lifeboat Soloman Browne went to rescue the Union Star after its engines failed. All 16 souls were lost including 8 volunteer lifeboatmen on 19 December 1981. We should always be in the lifeboatmens debt as they volunteer to rescue those at sea sometimes with horrific consequences. RIP the Penlee lifeboat men and the crew of the Union Star. After rescuing several men from the Union Star, the Soloman Browne lifeboat was crushed against rocks by the Union Star with the loss of everyone on board. 31 years has gone by in an instant.

Progress on the replaced rats is slowly gaining ground. The odd one needs a little tweeking but better than before.

A couple of pics of Greyhounds lifeboat. It is a cast white metal boat and was not too impressed with it. I have decided to go with it and although it is not great it doesnt look too bad. It needs final details of a rudder and another oar. I used a brown admiralty paint to cover the outside and its ok if you dont inspect it close enough. It probably isnt an historically accurate boat, but i think it will remain as part of HMS Greyhound. I had tried several other small boat kits but none were to scale or just didnt look right.

A few more of the dreaded ratlines added. A few need a little tweaking before they are finally set. Progress has been slow as my daughter got selected to play for England in her age group at rugby so i have been ferrying her all over the place. HMS Bellona is coming off the shelf very soon too.

Hi Hamilton, yes there are a couple of issues with this kit but its worth percevering with them. Check all the framework matches the plans. You will find if i remember rightly that frame 12 need to be remade, otherwise you will need lots of filler after the first planking. A lot of the fittings are very fragile and the cathead rail needs bending to fit the hull. I tried heating and bending but it didnt make much difference. Gentle cold bending finally got mine to the required shape but i had to use some metal filler and gold paint afterwards. Have a go at this model because it is a very good looking model. It will drive you nuts but i have altered several little things and negated most of the issues.

right.....this is the most up to date pic of my HMS Greyhound build. I took off all the previous shrould and ratlines as i wasnt happy with the results. It was a big ask and nobody would have commented on them but my eye knew where the faults were, so off they came. The following pics will be more of a continued nature instead of a load of pics posted at random. I apologise for this but havent got the time to sort everything out. Good to be back though.

I'll upload what pics i have left. I got to the shrouds and ratlines but removed them as i was not happy with the final result.
