thanks Keith     I've been wanting to move on to one of the other builds........but this one has become addictive!  it's been a while since I ran two build together........I have two tables.  it's the way I used to do it.......I may have to do just that!  yes.......I do find it amazing........I guess having eight builds in the wings,  is my case in point    the admiral sent me a new picture today.........her sense of humor boggles my mind.

thanks for the good word......from your fat forearmed friend    I'll have the transom done tomorrow

    Thanks Adriaan,

Yes, soon it is filling and sanding.
But first I have to close the hull.......
For the big parts I use a electrical sanding machine called a mouse.
    A little handy tool.
No pain in de shoulders for me !

3/4 of the planking is done.
On the port side I have used some filler to see how it's gonna be.
    And it is smooth !
Nice layer for the next planking.
Now I can close her and then it is totally filling and sanding.
A few pictures to show you.

I think the ship's barber is out at the moment Sjors.....but I could do it!  I have attachments for my clippers!     ......and for that traditional stooge's haircut........I can use a bowl! :D    appreciate the good word!

I do listen to classical music from time to time........I was thinking more of the songs like  "sunglasses at night"....or "cheap sunglasses"
thanks for the good word Nenad!

decal makers are nice things to have Daniel......I wish I had one when I was into modeling cars.   although it makes it easy to create the fancy designs on ships,  it still doesn't come close to those who are really good with a brush.  the first thing to do,   is to figure out whether a particular aspect is painted on.....or carved.  to be honest......I don't know if I can carve .....I should try it.  I'll keep it in mind when I do get the updated version   icky-may

thank you Borge.........good to see you here!  did you see the glare all the way to Norway? :D   thanks for the good word!

I am not used to doing anything during my work week....I'm usually too tired and falling asleep at my computer.   this is something I just had to get done.  so,  I did the railing Saturday evening........

then Sunday evening,  I did the pin rack........stained it just before I went to bed.   I glued it in place before I went to work this morning.

so......now the railings are complete.  this step is done.   there are some other rails along the hull to go on yet...and some painting.  I'll be doing that next.  here are some shots of the deck and how it looks now.

these two pictures how the railings follow the bulwarks

I need to get some semi gloss lacquer for the seal coat......I have some clear gloss,  but I think it would be too much shine.   I'll be heading back to the Gothenborg to do some more rigging.  thanks for your good comments,  I really appreciate it very much.

I won't be finished for a while yet , but here's a couple of pics of the "current state of play". I'll do a full set of progress pics when I get home next week - it's too hard to do with the laptop I'm using at the moment.

Craigb - sure, the old guy had a go to the best of his abilities on a very poor kit. The more I read the "destructions" the more I realise why he did it the way he did - they even confuse ME .

If he'd have been on MSW from the start we'd have helped him through and I'd have had a much easier task now. Or we'd have talked him out of attempting the kit in the first place and gone with something a lot easier which he probably would have finished before he passed away.

Thanks all.  Anyway, I did not like the direction the instructions were taking me on installing the upper Gunport lids, so I jumped on the first plane to Boston to see how they were really installed.  Just kidding.  I happened to be in Boston in November and was treated to a after hours tour by MSW member popeyetosea.  I took the attached picture of the actual upper lid and modeled based on that.

I painted the lids and installed the hinges, drill holes for the eyebolts using a #79 drill bit, and installed the eyebolts to the lid.  I then installed another eyebolt to the curtain and glued the lid in place.  From there I simply rigged with black thread and coated it with CA and paint to simulate the wire rope look.

This is my first build log. I started this hobby about three years ago and here are my previous builds:

Revell - Dom Fernando II e Gloria

    Artesania Latina - Mare Nostrum

    Corel - Flattie

Now it felt i'm ready for something bigger, so I bought the USS Constitution. Why? Basicly it just felt like a good choice, and I like the ships of that period. Also, I wanted the best quality kit for that, so my choice was Model Shipways. It's funny, because I'm from Finland (if you don't know, it's in North Europe) and everyone around here are building just european or asian model kits. In finnish modelbuildingsite they don't even mention MS in a list of manufacturers, so I guess i'm really the only one around here who is building this.

So this will be my third wooden build, but the first wooden sailing ship and first in this size. For now, it feels pretty big challenge, and I know it will very long build, but I'll always enjoyed building and thought that it's more fun if there are a lot of pieces.   The kit looks excellent and i'm very happy to get started.

Here are the first photos, just setting the keel pieces...
