Hi,

Since my Jacinthe project ( a buildlog will be done once im certain that my extra bulkheads were lofted correctly) is advancing i will soon have to decide about the planks i wish to use. According to Boudriot the Anemone class shooner at 1:48 would have 0,8mm (1/31 inch) thick planks. Since this is a somewhat odd value i was thinking about using 1mm ( 1/25 inch) thick strips of wood (cherry or pearwood)  but im not certain if they are thick enough to permit proper bending. Can anyone give me some advice regarding this problem? Is 1,5mm better? Am i worrying too much? :)

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

Daniel,

I believe you're overthinking as I'm prone to do that all the time.  :D  :D  :D  1mm should work fine.  As for bending.. a bit of soaking, a bit of heat (search MSW for "plank bending") and you'll do fine.

Greetings Daniel,

I would agree with with Mark. Plus, the 1mm represents the rough thickness at the time the plank is placed. After sanding, the actual finish thickness will be somewhat less than 1mm. Don't over think.

Absolutely, go for more thickness because it will disappear with all the sanding you will be doing to get a nice and smooth hull, deck or what-ever it may be.

It is easier to remove than to add.
