druxey Posted February 25, 2018 #2 Posted February 25, 2018 (edited) The rule was that you can't cut into the sides of the timbers and thus weaken them to make a gun port. So, the toptimber is either offset on the futtock below (shifted) or cut dog-legged (cast) in order to make the side frame of the port above.
