Eagle 1812 by Indyandy - Corel - American Brig

Started my build of the Eagle American Brig from Corel yesterday and have already found the plans to be lacking in some detail. First off as I started to dry fit the frames onto the keel I found the two frames closest to the stern would not fit as is indicated in the drawings.  Additionally the when I dry fit the deck in place it will not fit flush with the last second to last frame as indicated in the drawing nor is it clear how the last frame should be attached to the keel.

How does that deck template match the plans?  It looks like that last notch where 10/12 goes is not big enough.

 

Perhaps gluing #12 to #10 will set up a better fit.

After Looking over the hull I am wondering if the keel was cut incorrectly as the deck does not fit tightly to the bow.

Based on my very limited experience with Corel (one kit -- woo-hoo!), this is not likely to be the last difficulty you encounter. Of course, such problems exist in just about any kit, but Corel in particular seem to put less effort into their lower-end offerings compared to their top-of-the-line models.

Wow, I spent close to $300 on this model you would think it wouldn’t be considered lower end.

You would think, but compared to La Couronne, Wasa, or Wappen von Hamburg, it is in fact lower-end for a European kit. Still, think of all those niggling little design and/or manufacturing errors as opportunities for creative problem solving!

Having a hard time with #16 placement. no idea what level to set the piece. I have tried to count planks but it seams a little iffy.

Any thoughts?

Hi rowboat captain, are you still working on this ship? I had the same problems but worked my way thru.
