If you're going to drill holes and thread them in the wood, it helps to 'harden' the threads with two or three drops of thin CA.  It strengthens them quite a bit.  Just make sure the CA is completely dry before you put in the screws or threaded rod.

Hello Richard, Firstly I'm glad your back and hopefully feeling somewhat better, The Admiral and I would like to wish you wellness for 2014, I like what Augie suggested but a cradle could be an alternative ,Progress on your re-building is looking good.Will keep in touch,Edwin, :)

Thanks Kevin, it was great talking to a fellow modeller, and thanks also for all the tips. The day made me feel better, and inspired me to get back to working on The Amerigo Vespucci with some vigor.  When you have the time, why not try getting back to your A.M. which has been tucked away for some time.

good morning everyone

 

unfortunately Richard has passed away, he was a lovely man, and we had a great time when i had the opportunity to meet him and his wife
