Hi,

I am struggling with my first rigging for the Model Shipways Norwegian Sailing Pram and apparently I did not dilute the glue enough prior to applying the strips to the sail (staining the sail itself came out well)

Is there any way to fix that?

I am using Elmers Carpenter's glue diluted with water 1:1

Thanks!20230115_053630.thumb.jpg.ffb52add9419b7f2b0fd149a90d91a3d.jpg

If you have some scrap sail material,(I'm guessing these are cloth and not paper), put some glue on the test cloth and let it dry.  Then use acetone to dissolve the clue on the test piece and to make sure it doesn't dissolve the sail if it's not cotton.

I'd recommend using Aleene's tacky glue, or white pva. The yellow Carpenters stuff for wood leaves noticeable color stains, even when diluted.

Thanks!

Looks like this is a cotton fabric.

I will try that and see if there is any improvement. Will definitely try the white glue option for my next build.

Try 91% isopropyl alcohol to remove the PVA.

Then use Lineco Neutral pH Adhesive, Acid-Free PVA Formula  or other bookbinders PVA.

Or white PVA - very acidic, but dries clear.
