I've constructed the Bluejacket Shipcrafters Swampscott Dory kit and wanted to share the results.

This was my first attempt at building a model ship.  I spent a lot of time searching these blogs trying to find information regarding the details, so hopefully my step-by-step photos are helpful.

I generally followed the instructions included with the kit, but in several instances I elected to perform certain steps in a slightly different order.  The photos below are shown in accordance with that sequence.

One issue others should know is that the frame that spans the centerboard trunk (F2) is incorrectly dimensioned in the section view of the plans.  The frame needs to be expanded in width by an amount equal to the width of the centerboard trunk (this can be seen in the photos below).  There are a few other errors in the plans, but this is the most critical.  (I'm an engineer and have a lot of familiarity with design drawings).

Wow, very neat and tidy results, especially for a first boat, though I presume you may have other modeling experience.  Hope to see you take on and document something more challenging.  Any plans for what's next?

I agree completely!  Question: did the blocks come with the kit or did you buy them separately?

Very impressive build.  I like how you included a series of step by step photos.  Very nice model!

What subject is next for you on the horizon?
