Argh. A mismatch between instructions and parts. The instructions describe and illustrate the ring bolts as double width cotter pins and have you drill a hole to accommodate that width. The actual parts are single width, so my holes are too wide. I could have tried bending over the end but instead I used some filler and superglue.

Well, the Midwest Dory is finished. It was a nice easy build with just a few hiccups. Pretty different in a number of ways from the Model Shipways Dory, and not just in scale.

Different designers is probably the most significant difference. You have done this kit real justice, and the visual appeal of your little fleet is growing!

Their sander and their chopper both work great. I use them a lot.

The sander makes things quicker and it’s nice to be able to pull it out whenever I need it (as opposed to an electric one that I’d need to go to the cellar to use). It also keeps edges square while sanding where sanding by hand would round the sides of a piece - especially useful when trying to sand char off the edges.

I often have the adjustable square removed to give more room to sand larger pieces.

Clamping it down to lets you sand quickly. But I often use it for small work without clamping.
