Nice work so far.

The framework looks pretty good. Take some time at this point and make sure the planking lays flat on the bulkheads. Time spent on that now will make the planking easier. So far, so good. :)

Thanks Russ, yep that's why I stopped for now, I hate fairing work. Sanding frames is the worse part of builds in my opinion.

Back to work on my Lobster Smack today. Just finished the dreaded fairing of the hull in preparation for the side sheet planks. More to come as I progress.

Just a quick update on what I'd gotten done tonight. I just need to shape and sand the bow blocks, add the cut water and the hull will be ready for paint. I'm still deciding on what colors yet though. More to come as I progress. No more for tonight though, gotta spend some time with the Admiral and may not be working on projects Christmas day tomorrow either. Enjoy your Christmas everyone.

Just a quick update, I painted the hull semi gloss white and have the water line area masked off and ready for semi gloss black paint. I figured painting the whole hull white first would hopefully help hide any imperfections of my sanding skills or lack there of ;-)

Another quick update from this morning. I fabricated and installed the seat braces, added cabin/coamings, and cabin roof. Outer coaming and cabin roof painted semi gloss white. Next I plan to coat the bare wood surfaces such as decking etc. with clear satin Varathane brand Polyurethane and the hull will nearly be completed. Just a few more steps of parts to add to the hull and I'll be ready to start with the mast and spar work.

Another quick update. For the most part the hull is now completed, what's left for the hull are some detail items. After that comes the most fun part in my opinion, the mast, bowsprit, boom and gaff then sails and rigging. Be sure to check out the part 2 build log picture show on YouTube of what's completed up to this point.

Another quick update, the hull is now fully completed and the mast, boom and gaff are finished. Next step, make and install the sails and rigging. This has been a really fun build so far and although I didn't deviate from the kit instructions/plans like a lot have done with their builds to make awesome and unique lobster smacks, I'm still very happy with how my build has turned out. I have also created a part 3 picture show video on YouTube of what I have done up to now for anyone who'd like to see.

I finally got the sails finished for my build tonight. First I taped the edges of the slightly over-sized sails and brushed on some clear lacquer to keep the threads in the sails from fraying then once dry, cut the sails to their correct size. I also added the reef lines to the main sail...A task made simple by using a needle threader. Next the real fun, attach the sails to the mast, boom and gaff and finally mount the finished mast assembly to the finished hull assembly. I'm really enjoying this build.

Final update...I finally finished my build early this morning. The sail and rigging work was the most fun of all I think. Thanks to all of those who followed and commented on this build. It was a great project and I learned a lot about sails and rigging and now feel confident enough to finish my Constructo brand Albatros build. Be sure to check out my YouTube picture show of this final update.

Your lobster smack came out really nice. I appreciated your thread as it was an out of the box build without any added complications. Just what I needed to see as I am building my very first model, the lobster smack also, right now.
