From four simple tubes and a few small pieces, comes such beauty. Well done.

Chasseur reacted to Piet in Preussen by Chasseur - BOTTLE - barque
Hello Jeff,
Finally caught up with your Preussen. Very nice work and many helpful hints with references. It'll come in handy whenever I can start building my Dutch fishing boat or Staten Jacht in a bottle. But first I want to do a diorama of the Young America at sea in scale 1:3000.
I'll be following along as time allows.
Cheers,

Hi Jeff
I'm with Michael and Carl on this one. How you're able to fashion new tools and also work within that confined space is mind boggling.
You may not be in a hurry to finish her though, but I'm keen as mustard to see it all done quick smart!
I must repeat to myself over and over - "Patience, patience, patience...!"
Cheers

little update :
bringing all 4 funnels on to same rake and hight. All removeable funnels sit so fine and tightly in their sockets that the stays to go on later will be plain "cosmetic"
Nils
the eyelets in the deck are the anchoring points for the funnel stays
leveling out the funnel hights

Thanks Bob,
for your kind input on this. It must have been quite stuffy under deck in hot tropical zones in windless calms, also for stokers and trimmers, deep down in the belly, especially when the ship for some reasons is not making much speed....

Yes..Jeff I lived in the Olympic natl. forest watershed at Gold Mtn.
I'm currently drawing up a seam template that I will duplicate that can be used for each sail. It will represent in scale...3/32=1ft. Or 3/16" =2ft canvas bands that represent each band on each sail.
I will make many copies of the template one for each sail and cut the sail to scale, band it and each sail will be in scale to the other(I hope).
I'm currently trying to figure out a good way to represent the upper spider bands and their pins for each mast.
I failed to mention earlier concerning the futtock shrouds that they were probably cable...since from all I gather from my extensive study.....McKay was a forward thinker and utilized many ideas on the Great Republic that found their way on ships many years later....like self ventilating cabins, use of cable in the rigging and the use of a 15 horse power steam engine or loading/unloading cargo, pumping out the ship and operating the yards.
Here's kinda what I was simulating.

Hi Nils
Thanks and yep! These hatches on Shadow's port and starboard sides are for her tender garage. They open outwards to enable the two tenders to be launched and recovered.

Hi everyone
Thanks for all the Likes and comments! Greatly appreciated.
This is just another quick update. I've been progressing with the internal fit out, albeit at a very early stage, taking care to ensure that the major cabin bulkheads are fitted and installed. As usual, a whole bucket load more work to go; but it's a start.
Enjoy!
Cheers

If it is a matter of stability ... you could display her upside down ... not a nice alternative, unless she's fitted to the ceiling

Thanks for your comment Carl.
created by the vents, there is quite a lot of weight in brass into the model. Just take it as the era in which the vents did not yet comprize electric driven fans integrated in the vent lines....

Nice forest, Nils. They do attract attention, that is certain, but it is good contrast with the other details. Besides, you can't leave them off. Your build wouldn't be up to date
