Here are a few more of the 99% completed Philly. Just adding some crates, barrels, cannon gear and cannon balls. I am actually kinda sad the build is almost over. Thinking of the Rattlesnake to start the year off, but I have to get display case conjured up for the Philly.

Chuck Seiler reacted to pythagoras in GUNBOAT PHILADELPHIA by Steve.Y - FINISHED - Model Shipways
Hello Steve,
I just ordered a display case for my Philadelphia from Houston Display Cases and I can recommend them highly. I have two others from them for my picket boat and the Niagara. Mahogony is expensive but nothing sets a model off as well as a beautiful mahogany case. The workmanship is top quality. Website is www.displaycasestands.com. They will use others woods as well. PM me if I can be of further help.

Chuck Seiler got a reaction from avsjerome2003 in Bertrand by Cathead - FINISHED - 1:87 - wooden Missouri River sternwheeler
I built the FAR WEST about 10 years ago. It is here in my office at work and I gaze upon it as we speak. As part of doing research, I was amazed at where those things could go. While the Mississippi boats and Missouri boats has a lot in common, it was two different worlds.
The interior passenger areas were pretty luxurious (for their day) but with limits. Note the two "rest facilities" at the aft end of the upper deck, just forward of the paddlewheel. Two seats, no waiting!!!

Chuck Seiler reacted to BRiddoch in Higaki Kaisen by BRiddoch - FINISHED - Woody Joe - 1/72 scale - SMALL
Setting the yard and sail. As Clare mentioned in his blog, the setting of the sail "billow" is a challenge.

Well, I am done ... except for a few very minor touch ups and procuring a display case. (Rudder is done, but not on because I am a klutz and will break it while moving the boat around)... Thanks to all who have helped! and a special thanks to Chuck Seiler who gave me great advise and answered my rookie questions. I am hooked on this ship building thing, and I know my next build will be way better. AND I know I will be asking tons of questions.. Thanks again Everyone! Have a great Holiday season !! Here are a few photos..And...Go Hawks!

WASHINGTON GALLEY PART 8 CANT FRAMES
HI ALL
ABOUT TIME FOR ANOTHER UPDATE. BEEN DISTRACTED BUILDING FURNITURE FOR ONE OF THE LADS I WORK WITH AND STARTED BUILDING ANOTHER PROJECT......18 CENTURY LANTERN CLOCK .
HOWEVER ITS TIME TO GET TO GRIPS WITH THE FORWARD CANT FRAMES.....AWKWARD LITTLE SWINES!!!!
FIRST PAIR HAVE BEEN SET.....WAITING FOR THE GLUE TO DRY....NEXT TWO PAIRS WAITING TO GO IN.
PHOTOS ATTACHED.....COMMENTS ,CRITISMS...HOWLS OF DERISON GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
THE ONE THING I WILL BE DOING IS REPLACING THE LOW ENERGY BULB IN THE SPARE ROOM WITH AN LED BULB...A BRIGHT WHITE ONE......IT SEEMS THAT THE CURRENT BULB IS TOO YELLOW HENCE THE CRAPPY PHOTOS.
I ALSO REPLACED THE PREVIOUSLY MADE WOODEN JIGS WITH SOME MADE FROM 5MM ACRYLIC,IT WAS LURKING IN A CORNER AT WORK SO IT HAD TO GO!
THE WOODEN ONES WERE FAR TOO CUMBERSOME TO FIT IN THE FAIRLY TIGHT SPACE AT THE BOW,
THATS ABOUT IT FOR NOW........MORE CANT FRAMES TOO FIT!
CHEERS.....MICK

Chuck Seiler got a reaction from Jaxboat in Jim Byrnes Model Machines
From my discussions with Jim many years ago at an NRG conference, I got the impression he was a machinist that was also a modeler. He found a niche and filled it. ...and he understands our needs.

Well I got the long tweezers. I just need to slow down and be aware of surroundings.. Oh to be clumsy!

You get better at managing it once you poked yourself in the eye or broke an important piece off. It get more interesting when you get to the more complicated masting and rigging plans. Go in to the various logs and see the correct order to rig the ship and (2) get some long tweezers.

Its funny. Doing the build is pretty easy if you take your time...The hard thing is figuring a way to STOP bumping into the rigging. I am always snagging the lines with tweezers or smacking the spars with my face... crazy!!

I am sure there are some folks here who have done it. I'm not one. I don't even transport myself on a plane if I can help it. Something about sardines.
