cobra1951 got a reaction from Elijah in HMB Endeavour by cobra1951 - OcCre - 1:54
Hi Mike
The nails have been removed what you see in the planking are the holes left after removal

Just curious Bob - do the nails stay in or are they just for holding in place?

cobra1951 got a reaction from canoe21 in HMB Endeavour by cobra1951 - OcCre - 1:54
Hi Dave
Yes I there is room for the rudder etc. I think the construction of yours and mine will be different as they are from different manufacturers. Mine called for two strengthening pieces to be fitted either side of the keel at the stern end. Then they tell you to file out the space in between the strengtheners. I did it differently be cutting the piece out of the keel then fitting the strengtheners with the appropriate gap in between them. Awkward as most of the stern is built before it's mentioned.
You can just see the slot in between the two center strengthening pieces in the center of where the transom will be

My brass is thoroughly cleaned first with hot soapy water then rinsed then dried. It is then cleaned again in Actone then rinsed again a few time them it is left to dry.
My pitting occured using the Birchwood Casey diluted to 50/50 and it was used cold and the blackening never worked just some crusty black bits which fell off.
But to give the Birchwood Casey the benefit of the doubt the second lot of brass on my Gun section was not very good as i could see it looked like it was left lying around somewhere damp for years.
The reason i use the Krick warmed is because it says so on the instructions and it always works for me

Your build is looking fantastic! I love the color! Will the boat match the ship?

Hi Paul
There probably is but as i do not mind waiting to be supplied with what i have already paid for and i am in no rush to finish it (in fact i'm happy for the delay as it stretches out the sanding job lol) i'm not going to bother looking :)
I could get on with other jobs on the build but i want to build it in the manual order (unless as sometimes happens the manual is being silly) because in the past i have ended up forgetting to do stuff and then having to go back later and do it

First thank you for all the like and remarks and input, much appreciated :)
I was waiting for the first problem to pop up and here it is.
4 blocks of Balsa to make the shape of the bluff bow
2 blocks to be fitted each side into the space at the bow
The problem is Occre have supplied blocks meant for a smaller kit
They measure 15mm x 80mm x 100mm
But they should be 23mm x 80mm x 115mm
So no chance of filling the spaces at the bow.
I will contact my supplier on Monday to get replacements, So there will be a delay in the build until they arrive

Thanks Don
I only left it open because i was checking out a few builds of this kit and one showed it like that in his pictures so i did the same just in case there was a reason for it. Turns out there was no reason so i will patch in a little piece before i go any further.

Thank you all! I have the aft deck nearly finished. The pumps and navigation lights are what are left. I made the bollards, stove pipe, skylight, fife rail, mast coat, and techically "started" the main mast. Really, it is just thinned at the base to fit in the mast hole. The windows are ca, so they are still somewhat shiny, but have a bit of a more dirty look. I had to shrink my self to get some of the photos on deck
Until next time!
P.S. Yes, the fife rail is a little too close to the skylight. It is a crowded deck!

hello there! I was browsing around and saw your log.........I must say.......it's a fine looking build you've done a very nice job on her so far. I've seen a few of these kits by Dusek, and I really like how they look hoping to try one in a future build
look forward in seeing more of your work

The more mess the better IMHO lol
Planking looks good but the bend will increase the further up the hull you go
-
cobra1951 got a reaction from popeye the sailor in Hanse Kogge by Torbogdan - FINISHED - Dusek Ship Models
If those planks are plywood be careful when you soak them because the layers will come apart. Bending should not be too bad as it looks like the planks are already shaped to allow for the curvature of the hull

Nice Work on the aft castle
I see some very fiddly work coming up

Work have unfortunately effectively stopped me from building for some time. Hopefully I will have more time in a week or so. Very annoying.

A picture more from the side and with the color and shades cleaned up. In the foreground is the life boat. I have two planks left on the life boat before adding a few more details. Also working on the oars for that one. The hull is more or less done for now. I´m preparing the cleats, mast and yard arm. For the mast I´m going to test my Proxxon mini lathe! Looking forward to that.
I like this kit a lot, good instructions and easy to follow. Although I havn´t done the rigging yet I don´t think that will be much of a problem as there is not much of it. I think I would rate this model as a good first kit. (big words from some one with ONE model under the belt… )
