  1. Got a new tool. Something not necessary but makes one job easier. Model expo waterline marker. When the admiral gives the "ok" for a new tool, I don't pass it up.
  2. Next was to build the life raft container. This will be mounted on top of the main cabin. Alot of little projects getting knocked off the list.
  3. After the gas container build...I needed to build the storage box. I weathered the wood to a grey wash look.
  4. Back at the workbench. Today got work on making two gas containers. The picture show each step into the build.
  5. Thanks GrandpaPhil , BobG, ccoyle and everyone else for all the nice comments. It is always encouraging to hear from others in this great hobby. Model ship world is a great forum filled with friendly and helpful members. Thanks
  6. Built container to hold two barrels. Aged the wood to have a weathered look. Also a storage locker that will be found on the deck in the stern of the finished model.
  7. Began to build the wheelhouse. Enjoying this model as I continue. This is a great kit but I wouldn't recommend for beginners. The wood and supplies are good...instructions are not very detailed.
  8. Got some time at the workbench. Got alot done and got time to upload the pics for everyone to enjoy. Some deck furniture built and ready.
  9. Finished planking of the hull. Sorry no pic of that process. Fully sanded and primed. This is my best planking for sure. The old saying that the more you do something you will get better shows with each of my boat builds. Thanks everyone for following along and giving those thumbs up's.
  10. While the glue on the hull was drying ...I started working on the winch. Casting in the kit are in good shape and easy to work with. I really enjoyed building the piece. I approach each object as its own model kit and when you put all the kits together you have a finished model boat.
  11. Got time to work on the hull this week. This is a big model compared to my last. Not much to see yet but here are some pics....
  12. Welcome aboard from a fellow Mainer. Maine is a great place with alot of inspiration for model boat building. You will find very useful tips, tricks and ideas in this forum. MSW members are always willing to answer questions and help. Welcome aboard.
  13. I started a new build. St. Elme is a traditional fishing boat. I am a static modeler but it can to built for RC. The scale of this build is new to me with the length 35 inches. Need a bigger model bench !!!! I could not find much on build logs for this model.
  14. Marina II build coming to the finish line. I enjoyed this model and the time at the modeling bench. I named the model after my late sister. For my second ship....I am very pleased with finished model. I followed colors from the Marina II box art. Thanks for everyone that followed this build.
  15. Started work on the masts. I didn't like the way the instructions mention how to place the light fixtures on the masts. See pic... I decided to insert light fixture into hole I drilled into the mast supports...
  16. Bluejacket is a great, long time company in this great hobby of ship models. Midwest was a company that many of hobby builders got their start. It was sad to see a company in the hobby end. It would be wonderful if there was a chance Bluejacket to pick up the midwest line and keeping it from becoming a part of history in the hobby. Re-releasing midwest older kits like the one in this build log for many that didn't get the chance to build would be great. Just my thoughts for a hobby that we all love.
  17. I have just started to begin the build of the two masts. Here are some pics of the main cabin set in place not glued in yet.... The end looks near but I am probably turning the half way point. Enjoying the build and hope you enjoy following.
  18. Started to build radar and other deck equipment. This is a fishing ship. So there is fishing hooks and nets to build.
