  1. Hi.  You have a fascinating build there Brian. It'll make a really cool display for sure.  I'd like to offer you an interesting trick that might relate to your aft windows battle ( or anything where balance or alignment is sought).  A friend of mine is a sculptor, and he said that he pauses frequently to look at the piece in a large mirror.  Makes everything amiss reveal itself.  I used this method a lot back when I was oil painting and it saved me a lot of time!  I'll do that on my Willie when I get far enough for it to be useful.  Thanks a lot for your interest in my virgin build BTW!

  2. Hi.  Hope things are coming along well for you on the Basilone.  I'm inching my way along on my Willie Bennett but love/hate it to the end!  I did find the Gearing kit at a couple of places online & I'm saving up to buy one.  My shipmates still have a reunion every few years, and I hope to donate my model to the committee.  Well, carry on.

  3. Tim, Thanks for your tips , over on my Willie log.  I am so buzzed by your Basilone build!  I served on her twin, the USS Rogers (DD-876) in early 70's.  Looking at your log photos is such a thrill because of all the memories of this spot or that spot on the ship.  I was a sonarman,  and we handled the ASROC missiles as well..  I also was trigger-man on the big guns when in battle station mode.  Anyways, I'm going to find that kit right away so I can get on it when the Willie is finished.  What a fantastic guide your log will be!  Thank you so much for every word of it.  Carry on, sailor.

  4. Len,

Thanks for the info on posting pictures.  For some reason I couldn't find anything about it via the Help button.  Anyways, my pics aren't very high tech, but I hope to showcase my mistakes & whatever solutions come from others who are doing the Willie Bennett.

By the way, your treatment of the winder is incredible.  I'd spent hours trying to identify all the little parts for it as I inventoried my box.

  5. Hey Oliver.  Looks like your fun is very successful.  So much precision and innovation has to be rewarding.  Thanks for the pics.  And I admire your workspace so organized and tidy.  My space is still evolving (i.e. it's a mess!)   I'm just starting the Willie Bennet skipjack but aiming to do a Mermaid soon.  Anyways, thanks for sharing your thought process and outstanding results.

    Rick

  6. Hey thanks for the time-inventory of your past builds.  I had no idea how long it takes, esp the big ornate ones.

I can't imagine getting anything done in CIC!  (I was a sonar tech myself).  Well, I went ahead & purchased the Victory kit and put it away until I've done a couple of lighter ones.  I'm retired, living alone, so I have all the time in the world.
