  1. My clamps hadn't arrived so I couldn't use the aluminium angle as described by themadchemist so improvised by using a engineers square, gluing one at a time. As I progressed along the false keel I started using a combination of engineers square / small vice / rubber bands and height gauge thingy. everything seemed to hold square, thankfully.
  2. Oooo laser cut parts. I know, cut with a laser!! How cool is that?! We often read that but don't really think about it. Ok on to the build log.
  3. Ok, here goes. This is my first model and it's not going to be pretty so I apologise in advance for my butchery of this fine starter kit. There will be blood (I must use round nosed scissors), sweat and tears along the way. Hopefully not too much blood. What there will be is lots of questions as I stumble through the process but, I am looking forward to learning. Firstly I need to work out how to post pictures etc so bear with me. So gripping my nose, cheeks puffed out like a child jumping into swimming pool, here goes. Wish me luck.
  4. can't be worse than the effort I'm doing I look forward to seeing your progress
  5. I noticed on the bow that you (themadchemist) sanded the false keel into a 'knife edge' and planked over it.
  6. yours is one of the build logs in my favourite list, I'm just trying to find the bit where you talk about thinning the false keel down. As I sat reading and thinking tonight it just occurred to me that the math doesn't work out.
  7. I've just started my first build (Swift of course) so have been reading the build logs and have a daft question. Really struggling to get my head around planking (I'm so nervous about starting that bit) So here goes. I notice that the stern of the false keel hasn't been thinned down, I don't think anyone has? So, a cross section of the finished hull would be :- 2nd planking = 0.6mm 1st layer of planking = 1.5mm False keel = 4mm 1st layer of planking = 1.5mm 2nd planking = 0.6mm that makes 8.2 mm total thickness? The stern post is only 4mm thick. Have I got that right? Is that how it will be? Will you not see the ends of the layers of planking? Sorry if I've really got this mixed up.
