    Hi all

Just a bit of an update. I'm still working on the Portside stateroom double suite and also the owner's stateroom bathroom.

Still more work to go, but, it's fun and satisfying. Keeps me off the streets!

    Cheers

    Hi Pete and Bob.

    Many thanks!

Bob- I can relate to what you're saying about the finishing....I often wonder why I'm spending so much time doing the trim when it'll hardly be seen once the deck is on, but, like your carpenter-scout master must've thought, it just has to be done, otherwise, it just won't be finished!

    Pete- thanks for following along.

    Cheers

Patrick, you're doing a fine job.  Way back in the days of ole, when I was a boy scout, the scout master was a finish carpenter.  That is he would go in after the house was built and do all of the trim around the doors, windows, etc.  He always told us it takes as long to do a good job on the trim as it takes to build the house.  I find that true here also.  It takes as long to do the interior and deck furnishings as it does to build the hull and deck.

Hi Walt, I glued the paper to the wood with a thin layer of Elmer’s White glue covering the surface of the wood.  After cutting the strips I planked from the outside in with the paper towards the outside.  I did not try the other way but I doubt there would be a difference.

    Lawrence, thanks for the complement.

Pete, I’m not sure yet what I’m getting myself into with this edge gluing of veneer.  I’ve decided to make a minor change.  I will place a narrow strip of the veneer over the edge of the bulkheads as something extra to hold it all together.

George, I’m already having fun just figuring out what in the heck am I doing.

Jparsley, welcome to ship/boat building.  In most cases when bulkheads are set up in this way the planking is glued to the bulkheads and they become part if the boat.  In my case I want an empty hull so I can maybe show the interior.  In order to do this and hold the planks together they would have to be glued together edge to edge.

Patrick, in my twenties I lived on a boat.  Not too far away was a dragon.  That is when I fell in love with them.

Frank, the strips I mentioned above should add a lot of strength, at least that’s the hope.

Igor, yes, I get into trouble all the time by making promises to her.

Now It’s back to the boatyard hope to have more soon.

    Hi Bob

It looks like this will be a very delicate build for a while.  I'm looking forward to seeing how you develop the hull strength.

    Hi Jo

Many thanks for clarifying the Copyright issue.  Interestingly, we have an Aussie billionaire who is planning to build a Titanic replica at $500 million AUD (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanic_II).  Based upon your info above, I'd imagine that there'd be no copyright issues to overcome as it's more than 100 years ago?

You can't ignore a beautiful hull when you see one...and the Dragon is certainly nice and streamlined.

I like! Can't wait for the next update, that's for sure.

    Hi All,

Now to get started.  I finished the drawings and cut out the bulkheads using 1/32” scrap plywood.  The bulkheads were glued to 1/4” square stock and then glued to the build board.  The keel was cut from 1/16” mahogany. I think its mahogany, its a little redder that walnut so I call it mahogany. I will plank with the mahogany veneer strips that can be found in most kits, the planks will be glued to each other but hopefully not to the bulkheads.  Edge gluing the veneer strips should be fun (read as possibly frustrating), we’ll have to see how that goes.  Anyway here’s a picture of where she is today.

"Sucuri" problems again. Then not. Then again, Then not. Then hit me out. Then not. Then freeze everything, or slowed to death

Is it really necessary to have such a strong firewall ?

Ok, time to continue with whiskers  catheads ( satisfied, Mark ?) -  if I have success with uploading pictures and posting - two photos were rejected from unknown reason ...

First careful drilling holes in foredeck bulwarks, and thinned inner part of whiskers  catheads  to get visual proportion. I think in real ship, they are a half and more of their width under deck, so considering I do not want to digg  on deck, I have to thin them

    Not bad

Comparing pictures from old CS and today, there is a little difference in colors - today, ends are painted white. Anybodu knows reason ?

And I was clever and painted whiskers all black after making, so sanding starts

    And thin thin thin paintbrush

And here we are. Not glued jet, because first I have to drill a little holes and make this nice fragile shackle , then to glue, and after that to mount shackle. Dont forget Nenad to make a cat carving on top, and a little ring there !!!!!

And then my regular brain worm appears, and started turning me on devil`s side, to make one sweet detail

And here is simulation of it. Not enough skill to make this on body of whiskers  catheads  which is only 3.5 mm wide

Obviously I have to play in Photoshop to paint my eyes blue and to change my avatar

Day full of work therapy of every kind. First daily shopping, and coffee with my mother in law. Then my car suddenly turned to F-16 with afterburner on ... what a heck ... exhaust died ... ok, go to service ... 30 $ fly as a bird ...

Coming home, I noticed both cherry trees in yard get proper carmine -purple color of cherries, and realized that today is "cherry day" and start to pick cherries.

Some from terrace under garage ( my phone surrvives fallin down from my pocket from 4m high !?!), some from grass, some by ladder. Never more of them and never better. Some on top of tree I just can not reach - I still do not know to fly

Then - wash them, clean them, dry them, and pack for deep freeze

Lunch, little nap, finished cleaning house, and evening come, time for Her Majesty. (Still not in the mood for socializing with friends)

Considering I do not have luck with 0,5 wire, I decided to try opposite way - to solder 1mm wire to 1mm wire, and to fit it and thin it after soldering

    And that was success

I concluded watching C-plans that hocks on whiskers are, if you want to make them in scale - less than 0,5 mm, and that is impossible to turn any rope through them. Also if I ( with magic wound) make them so small, they will be invisible. Look at next picture with C-plans under, ruller and my whisker

So, having in mind that I want hocks visible, I decided to enlarge them "a little", also to enlarge space between hocks for 1mm. Obviously, some details just have to be enlarged. Ropes, for instance. As I see watching photos of dead eyes, ropes between two lines od dead eyes are max 2cm dia. In my scale 1:100, they have to be 0,2 mm dia. As a hair. I think nobody can do that, and nobody did that

Now, I have to search on MSW to find where I was reading about weathering brass

Eh, I don't feel bad; part of engineering is having good ideas that don't work out in reality. And, you don't have a thick head - someone with a thick head wouldn't be able to solve any of the problems and challenges that come with detailing yacht interiors that fit in the palm of a hand!
