Sjors, I have looked at the cannons, and I think there is no need for a primer. The paint does sit really well on the cannon's. I don't know much about this, but I thought I would mention it.

Hi everyone,
Yes it did really work great. Keep only in mind that you have to paint the cannons in a primer first before spraying. I forgot this, but will be doing this with the next ones.
And Sjors: I bought the Tamiya metal black spray, but I saw that they also sell gun metal black. I woudl recommend that because this colour i used is a bit to dark.

Update
@Sjors, Thanks
Here is another short update. This also answers your question Sjors, about the result of spraying those cannon's with Tamaya Metal Black spray. I would really reccomend it. I have tried it myself on 5 cannon's, and I think the result is great :
I hope to do some more in the coming holiday of me. After that the great holiday will be in a short time, in which I will do a lot of modddeling (when I can finally begin with planking!! )

Update
Hello Everyone,
It's been a while since I have posted a update.
But here is one again
As you know I'm experimenting with making the cannon's. I got some tips that the carriage I made was a bit to big in comparison to the cannon itself. So I made another one, which looks more like the one wich is on the replica of the La Fayette:
I'm very pleased with the result!
Some other photo's of what I have made so far:
Hope to do some more in the may holiday which is in 2 weeks
All advice is welcome

Nice kit. I also have experience with manufactures who puts lots of metal parts in the kit instead of wood
I wish you good luck with your built, I will follow it!
(By the way, you have more space to work than me )

Hi Sjors
Did you only use admirality paints for this ship?
It's all coming nice together. Are you going to put sails on the ship or not?
-
-
Nice job Sjors!
Did you only use some dust from the sanding mixed with glue to fill the gaps?

Very nice progress Sjors!

@ Nick,
I know you are busy with school so no excuse please !
Thanks for the good word !
It was not ment to be a excuse, just to say that I was pleased to see some nice progress
By the way, do you also have some nice weather there in Schiedam. Here in Loosdrecht is it almost 20 degrees, and that for March!

Haven't been on MSW for a while.
Very nice progress Sjors!!

Yes, with Tamiya spray metal black
-
Thanks everyone for comments!
@Philo, great to hear. Hope you can use my built log as example (But i think you will work faster than me )
I'm very proud of the cannon, but it is not good. It has to be a little bit smaller, and the original cannon's of the Hermione are in a other shape. So I will continieu with experimenting.

Nice and interesting built!
I will follow your progress.

Hi Sjors,
I haven't tried it yet, but I will do it before making the next 35
Yes, I will paint those wheels. I have tried blackening them, but not a good result. So I will use my Tamaya metalic black spray.

Update
Hello everyone,
Here a short update. I did some painting on the cannon. And WOW, I do really like this paint (admiralty paints from Jotika)!!
Here is a photo of the result:
I'm still experimenting with the cariages. I don't know if I will change the shape or leave it like this
-
Thanks Sjors!
@philo426, no, but I think they don't have to be metal in the first place. The quality is OK, but I think wood is much nicer

Update
Hello everyone,
first of all, thanks for the comments. I will do my best to make this buildlog good for everyone, with enough but not to much photo's
(@philo426, I will and will not recommend this kit. The ship itself is great to build, but the kit itself isn't so good. The wood quality is OK, but there are lots of metal parts. You can make the ship with those metal parts, but I decided that I would replace them)
As I said before, my Holiday has started. I started immediately with building
On the 15 of february (day 12), I was going to work outside. But because of the strong wind, I decided to work in the barn where we have our bicycles in (I put those outside).
I did some work on the balsa blocks in the front of the ship. I did this with a chisel and a file :
I did (and do) some experimenting with making gun carriages. This is still in progress
By the way, Sjors and Anja send me some files.
They worked really great and did help me very much with making the gun carriages. Very much thanks to them!!!
Cheers
Nick

Update
Hello everyone,
It's been a few weeks since my last update.
I will clarify where I are right now in the building progress.
I have been doing some experimenting with the gun cariages. I also have made some of the metal parts into wood (see photo's above).
I have made a lot of cariages, but still don't know if I've got the right size and shape. This because I have to made them by myself without any instructions.
The ship itself is sitting on a shelf in my room. I have now holiday, but will mostly doing the little work as the cannon's and other metal parts. After this two weeks holiday I have 8 weeks of school, and then begins the great holiday. In this holiday I will be doing a lot of moddeling, and hope to come far with the ship.
Here are some photo's of the new cariages (commentary is very welcome):
I have made 3 different cariages. I found the second one the best and others I know told me also that the second one is better:
So I will be using that one for making the rest of the cannon's in the coming 2 weeks in which I have holiday.
I will keep you all up to date of how far I'm (which is not very interesting to post a photo of every cannon I make ). After the holiday I will focus on my study, but after 8 weeks I will do a lot of moddeling, including the planking (finally )
