CDW got a reaction from popeye the sailor in F-104C Starfighter "Blue Jay Four" by Egilman - Minicraft/Hasegawa - 1/32nd Scale - PLASTIC
Squadron used to fill that niche of vacuformed canopies. They were cheap, too. Seems they went the way of the Dodo Bird.

When I was a kid, we had a 50 foot tower to dive/jump off into the water at a local lake we frequented. Like you said, it felt a lot higher than 50 feet when you stood on top of it to dive off, but it was darned good practice.

Ejection at supersonic speeds without a capsule would defeat the purpose, as it would almost certainly result in death.

Those are great reference photos for the seats, EG. Just what you need for a project like this.
Ken, what kind of training did you receive for the unfortunate event where you had to use the ejection seat? My brother in law told me some horror stories about pilots who ejected and suffered serious injuries and death. Was the training aircraft specific? I've also wondered how the readiness of the ejection system is checked and verified.

Great looking Spit, OC. I really like the smooth paint job and decal work.

It was super. Weather was beautiful, warm days and cool nights. We got our youngest daughter all settled into her new living arrangement with her oldest sister then we came back home this past weekend. Feels strange with just the two of us at home now.

Looks like the box says it's 40 3/4 inches, but maybe I'm reading it wrong. It's a big one.

CDW reacted to Old Collingwood in Seafire Mk. III (Late) by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - 1/48 - PLASTIC
Evening all,
More progress tonight - I fitted the rear tail dragger wheel and painted/weathered, then I sat her on her wheels for the first time
Then it was time to make the spinner and props - but could i find the frame for the props to fit in (not a chance) so I found a round collar and ligned the props up at 90deg and ran my round file to create some cut out, then I sat the props and applied a good measure of glue to fix them.
I returned to the bench and found the props/frame glued down to my cutting mat - so eased away with my knife, I saved the spacing by glueing the assembly inside the spinner cone and set them up aligned.
After a few hours I was able to handle the assembly and paint them Sky/Nato Black - I fineished off by adding the one decal on each prop, then glued it in place on the front.

An excellent recovery brother..... Look at it this way, what your learning about yourself in the hobby is more valuable than any one individual model or technique...
Keep going my friend, it only gets better.....

Don't be too hard on yourself OC, I think looks fantastic, very royal navy, wouldn't look out of place on HMS Illustrious.
Edit: further research suggests that mk3 were on Hms Victorious and mk2 were on Illustrious

Evening everyone, so I'm calling this "Part Finished" pending a top coat, I added the aerial and rear view mirror.
Thank you for all the comments and looks - It didn't turn out to bad (not the best) but considering it was nearly a bin resident.

I'm here Jack... I'll have you know that I seldom come in from shore leave, so If I start bumping into things or asking dumb questions it's cause I'm seldom at work in the shipyard......
I"ll try not to make a fool of myself.. I promise.... {chuckle}
Sorry for derailing the other. (it wasn't intentional)

You have a pretty good eye. It is 25 1/2 inches as it sits on build board. Build board is 3 ft long
Correct! Finished size. It is just over 6 inches wide before planking.
No problem! Just didn't want that discussion to get lost over there. It is worth knowing. I did visit this ship in Baltimore a few years ago with the Admiral and our youngest granddaughter who had to explore every inch right down to keel. It is a really beautiful ship regardless of the history of its rebuild/restoration.

WOW!! That's huge, that must include the bowsprit and the boom. No wonder Jack has got to rearrange to display it.
Did you have a good trip Craig?
