Hi Sjors,
Your last pics remind me of the pics of the space shuttle attached to a 747....
I think you do a fine job on planking since it is about the same as the spackling I used for the first
layer when I did my Victory bow section .

Perhaps if you did gudgeons instead of dudgeons it would be less painful....Computer was down for 2 days and I just got back up. Thanks for all the kind comments and likes ----- all most appreciated.
On the painted castings. Testor's Model Master enamel named 'wood'. Solvent based. No primer. Just thinned it a bit with acetone and did 6 coats brush on. Then one coat of Testors Acrlic Flat Lacquer.
Now, I knew someone would notice the stern scrollwork not being reversed. Actually, not just someone ----- BEN! I'd like to say I did it as a test, but no....just an old fool stumbling along. I might just fix it. Hey ----- I got them right P/S :D
Will be back in the shop soon to do pintles and dungeons ( I despise metal work).
Sorry Augie, couldn't help myself.....great work....makes me rethink even starting......

Hi Sjors,
The guests have all departed so now I can start catching up on yours and others fine builds. Looks a bit crowded here so I'll just stand in the back......

Roger,
Glad to see you've started a log and I got here in time for a front row seat. It will be a bit like traveling down memory lane but with improvements!
The Bob is a fun build and I'm real interested in seeing how you tackle it. You already have shown a much better talent for narrative than I and the build will certainly be a much better one as well....

Take your time Craig....
Even though I am looking forward to your next set of pictures.

Andy,
Great work!
Causes one to wonder why anyone could look at media other than wood as inferior........
I may have to make my next vessel one of the Civil War era resin kits!

Hi Craig,
Not sure what anyone else would do but I just sort by dimension, assuming there will be enough. Have yet to experience a shortage even with some of my sloppy practices. I do take extra care with the odd 1 or so pieces that only are used for a single item or two; normally the bigger dimension stuff.
My practice is to sort and separate by eye after establishing the dimension and then using a little tag to identify each group.
Hope that helps!

Jim

Sjors,
Looks great! And your pics are also very well done!

Hi Sjors,
Looking Fine!
I do have a question about the deadeyes......I thought their purpose was to maintain correct tension on the lines to keep all in balance. If that is the case, how often in real use would they have been perfectly aligned other than in port - when things could be adjusted to be ship shape? Just wondering....

Jim

Hi Jerry,
I've been watching your log and thought it was about time to tell you what a great job you are doing. Not only is the ship looking fine but you are also quite creative with your jigs and fixtures.
I particularly like the turntable you have as a part of your work platform; allowing you to swivel the vessel. That is now in my notes for use on my next ship
model project!

Sjors,
Terrific work! Was the Aggy box there by accident?

Augie,
Have you ever tried hot melt for planking? I know that sounds goofy but it is what I used for my Victory bow section. They were shorter planks for the most part but if one can stand the heat(the glue does burn fingers for a sec.) it certainly holds .....
Thick CA is also in my array of adhesives.
Your humble acolyte,
Jim
