Good progress...

Just waiting to hear your feedback on the pencil sander.   Probably better for fine work than trying to be gentle with a rotary tool?

Is counting hours a new requirement?   It makes me tired to think about that...... :D

But you have two problems:

 

1)  If you wait to start on Confed until I'm finished, you will open the box to a pile of petrified wood.  And.....

 

2)  I think you deserve some 'warning points' for taking unfair advantage of we poor landlocked souls on MSW.  In that middle photo, she looks full scale !!

But seriously, you've done a great job on this lady.  The wood and metal work are most attractive and the overall color is perfect.  She is a proud addition to the MSW Gallery and your own collection.

My laundry list has the Marseille by Mamoli, a couple railroad engines, a Sopwith Camel and the Confederacy(already got the brass cannons and figurehead from Chuck's company) but will wait for Augie to finish his before even opening the box!

The attached will be the last in process pics.  I don't intend to add any flags as I think paper flags do not add anything to a model......

The blocks on the penny are under magnification.  I had enough trouble even then drilling them out for the line....just to add to the lifeboat davits. 

I'm going to take the Lackawanna outside today and get some shots for inclusion in the completed gallery.

I'm sure the experts have better ideas but since they mustn't be on at the moment, I'll provide my two cents. I hesitate to say this but a picture may help them understand exactly how things are. On another note, there are myriad 'substances' available at a hardware store that will adhere to metal and can be tooled, drilled, etc. The store folks might have a good suggestion. Also, even though CA has a bad name here, it does bond just about anything to anything if used properly.....a little bit does more than a lot. I've used CA to attach 'rope' to places where I've missed drilling a hole and have yet to have it fail. Again, I'm anything but an expert ....

Good luck and don't give up!

Claire came home and saw the Christmas bubs in the stacks.....and loved them!

So now my little tugboat gets a place in the family room above the fireplace (yes, fireplace....for the two days a year it gets below 40. ) mantle as long as the bulbs are in the stacks during the Holidays.........

So now what do I do to make my other projects into ornaments???????

Thanks for the history and pics. I am sorry to say I had no idea it was Nelson's first command. That does explain its popularity. American education, I guess.

Best of luck in not starting the build. When I tried starting my tugboat before finishing the stagecoach it was a disaster so I shall stay one at a time.

But it does appear that you have the ability to handle two.......could it be three????

Tapered and stained the masts, installed the stack stay rigging cleats, davits and lifeboats. Took a while for the lifeboats as 'we' couldn't decide what color the canvas should be.    Also had to pick a color to represent water in the fire buckets.......

Still looking for Christmas lights. :P

Remaining items are searchlight, lights, masts and rigging, maybe a flag.....

Progress......

Was able to install the stanchions and railing with the help of my magnifier, light oil and tweezers as well as a lot of patience.  The holes in the posts are so tiny it was hard to see them even under magnification.....took a bit of poking with the tweezers.  And when there was any misalignment, the bras wire would drag, thus the need for oil......

Also made progress on the lifeboats and life rings.....

Thanks. And yes, the colors are firming until they're not.   It was okay to do the life rings in white and black until she decided they needed red trim instead for safety.....     "Yes Dear....."

Pictures......

Did quite a bit of installation (once the stack issue was resolved.)  

The first pic is a 'tool time' suggestion.   I'm certainly a novice here but perhaps someone will find this useful.  The two 'sticks' in the picture are polypropylene dentist tools.  They use them to clean stuff off of molds and forms used for bridges, crowns, etc.  Almost nothing will stick to them so I use 'em for gluing, paint touch up, clean up, and as a toothpick....

Since they are disposable, my dentist just gives me a bunch whenever I ask(new ones, not ones he has used).  They have a tiny brush on the end, which I remove for most uses.

Anyway, on your next dental visit, look around....they have many useful tools they may be willing to share!

Then pics of my stack leveling, placard installation, vents, running lights and lifeboats.

The placards were photo etched so I painted them black and then removed the top layer, revealing the lettering....

Did another dry fit and then actually attached some things.

Also painted a bunch of parts.

The fore stack is fastened in place but the aft stack is not.  Claire thinks the aft stack 'leans'.......    Perhaps it does but it is not perceptible to me.....

Can anyone else perceive a lean?..

Did the access stairs and guide lines for the pilot house............small parts...... :D :D

The last pic show some of the remaining items.....yet to have their colors 'approved'.....

Ant then I'll start work on the masts.......probably leave the ratlines for last........ :P :P :P
