    Hallo,

thanks for your likes. thanks for looking. I made some fotos with my phone, maybe it is better but still not perfect.
I added fenders on both sides of the ship. They are made each from 1 peace of walnut 4x4mm (against the plan, where is each from 3 pieces glued together).Next is lantern on the aft and the second boat. I do not know how it all fit in there, but we will see...

I have been slow to post lately for two reasons.  First, it is spring and I have been out chasing bugs and flowers.

The second reason is that I have been stalling.  I have a lot of oak to cut and since my Admiral was kind enough to order a Byrnes saw for my fathers day "surprise" I have waited rather than struggle with my old saw.  The Byrnes will arrive tomorrow so the updates should increase.

I have finished the added bulkheads and the planking supports attached to the bulkheads.  The next step is a day of steaming and bending of the oak caps for the bulkheads and the deck planks.

This is a quick stain test using Minwax Gel Stain color Aged Oak.  I have been looking for a stain that would not be as dark as the ship after it was buried for 1000 years (walnut) but not as new looking as, say, golden oak.  I ran into a sample of this aged oak at a local store and decided to give it a try.  I hope that this gets the Vivian seal of approval   .

The plank set on the left has ebony stain on one side to simulate caulking, the center group has nothing and the right group has black Sharpie on one side.  I am not sure that it makes much difference.  The Sharpie was easier to control than the stain.  Pencil did not show up at all.

The piece at the bottom of the picture is the same plywood as used for the hull planks.  It matched better than I expected.

Thank you for looking in and your comments,  Amfibius.

    I think I have finally finished !!!

Have made up a deck pump from a combination of one from Caldercraft and an Amati one. Although I still have another one to do I may not fit them on the ship as there is really no space - gets a bit tight. The handle had a bit of walnut strip added both sides and sanded round otherwise it would have been flat brass.

    Anchors fitted.

Rounded lump added for the sling to sit on - plus having been very impressed by Beef Wellington's (Jason) serving thought I'd have an attempt on the slings.

    Final photo

Thank you for looking and and all the comments and those on the old site whose build of the Supply helped me get started. Hopefully I may have helped someone in return.

    Again thank you

    Regards

    Hallo,

after a litlle pause I find a time for little update. I improve the top for main mast.
It will maybe look more like basket, not like that tub supplied in kit - but it is a good base
My camera has problem as you can see on the poor quality pictures.
Next fotos show stove or grill in this case and interior of Columbus cabin.

Thanks for all the overly kind comments.  Welcome aboard Sam and Pete -----  and hello again, Kevin.

Update time.  The inboard planking has been completed up through the deck clamps.  It's all basswood.

Of some importance here is that the deck clamps, which will support some 30 odd beams for the quarter and fore decks, must be absolutely level to the deck and square to the centerline of the ship.  This required some plank 'juggling' / customizing to get it all just right.
Here, I've placed a deck beam temporarily in place to check everything along the way:

The fore and quarter decks will be half planked allowing us to view this deck, but a lot of what we see will be covered.  No matter, it needs to be right.  Which brings me to a comment on this kit.  Alignment (of everything) is important.  We saw this with the stern and it certainly continues here.  I'm still pretty new at this and, sometimes it tests my patience (or lack thereof).

    Here's an overall shot:

Finally, a shot of the main cabin area.  This is where Ben's favorite aspect, the cabin floor, will appear at some point.

I shall now proceed to paint these inner bulwarks red to match the gun ports.  The ports themselves, and some other areas need some touching up and the shop needs to be policed.  The bulwarks in the Great Cabin will remain natural.  Then it's time to switch gears and decide what's next.  I could start setting up the margin planks in preparation for the Great Cabin floor ---- as per Ben!  But with Summer here, maybe something mind numbing like work on the cannon.  Or perhaps even some completely off-line detail.  All depends on the fishing/flying weather.

Let ya all know next time
