Few planks remain and ofcourse the correction plank(I guess two of them will be needed-a longer and a short one )  to close the hull planking.. Stealers were also used 4 each side at the stern. According to my logbook  I just conclude 100 hours of work.

Now its party time 🥂my grand son is coming to Cyprus and am closing the shipyard down for the time he is staying with grandma and grandpa.  😊🐖🐄🐓🦆

So planking upwards now. Leaving some spaces on the bottom  stern to catch the turn correctly. Ofcourse those will be filled at the end with a few stealers.

Am coming nearer to the end. Though am still stressed with the out coming of the ending at the bow, of the rest of the planks. I guess, if the planks get too thin, then maybe I will have to use a joggler or two

Planking still going on. Not so fast , but ok. The planking from the kiel upwards has   also started. I assume that another 6 strakes in this direction will bring me up to the end stage and I hope very.near to the last plank... to the correction plank.

    Time for another update.
I mentioned earlier in my log that I wasn't happy with the hammock netting. I always thought that because the netting wasn't all the way down to the cap rail and had a bit of an inconsistent gap that adding hammocks probably wouldn't work.
But I finally couldn't resist having a go at it to make sure. So I took a break from the rigging and spend a few weeks making the hammocks. I just used a sheet of calico and cut it into 17x35mm rectangles.
I'm glad I did because I don't think it's come up too bad (looking from a safe distance....lol).

Gun ports finished. The  transom is installed and am ready for the planking of the hull. The instructions of AL show a few very thin planks coming at the bow. Thats something am going to avoid so am not going  to follow the instructions.

Gun ports cutting is progressing. It was important to take care that the ports were marked  in the right position. The correct height from the cannon deck and ofcourse care was also given not to cut any frame.

The cannon deck planks were varnished with a satin matt varnish. The wall's inside planking of the cannon deck is going to follow as soon as all the ports have been cut.

After two weeks the shipyard has open again. Now we go in a quicker tempo. Gunwale completed today. Needs sanding and then cutting the gun ports

Dutchman reacted to zappto in La Gloire 1778 by zappto - Mamoli - French 34 Gun Frigate
Hello all. Today i am starting a new adventure. I was long thinking which ship chose to build and decided to go with a frigate, it will be third build. Mamoli - La Gloire 1778.

This ship is a classic frigate that belonged to the French Navy at the end of the XVIII century. The vessel was equipped with 26 12-pound guns on the battery deck, in addition to 4 6-pound guns, and 4 carronades of the main deck. La Gloire was planned by the shipbuilding engineer Guignace, and was launched at St.Malo in 1778. This model is a reproduction, scale 1:90, of the ship during the first year of navigation, with the bottom painted white. One year later, in June 1779, like with many other ships, the submerged part of the hull was sheathed with copper plates to protect it from corrosion.

Kit is double plank-on bulkhead, with pre-cut wooden parts of walnut, mahogany, lime, beech, boxwood and tanganyka. Pre-finished fittings include wooden ship's boat, blocks, deadeyes and gratings, gilded metal for transom ornamentation and figurehead, brass nails and belaying pins, and finely cast white metal for the gun port frames. The 34 guns of the original ship are reproduced in burnished metal. Colorful flags, four sizes of rigging, plans and instructions are included as well.

    Intermediate Level

    Mamoli Kit No. MV34W

    Length 33"/Height 25"/Scale 1:90

Thanks for the likes again everyone, I do appreciate them.
I have added the remaining blocks and the brace pendants to the yards and fixed the lower and top sail yards to the masts permanently this time.
I pinned the topgallant yards to the masts as well, although it was advised in the manual not to do that as it may weaken the mast too must. So don't copy that. I got a bit over confident...lol
I probably said it before but I am glad I picked the Syren to challenge my skills. She is a truly beautiful ship and a joy to build.
Hats off to Chuck again for putting it together.
A few photo's to show my progress (in random order).

The skeleton consists of a large number of elements that must be assembled as a lego. It is amazing, as if collecting a spaceship.

I added the stuns'l booms to the yards and pinned the Topsail and Lower yards onto the masts.
They are just dry fitted and the yards assemblies are not completed yet. I have decided to keep them natural and not paint them black.
    Some photo's......

Gunwale almost done with 14 planks in total. Though today the shipyard, as I already mentioned, has closed for two weeks.... the shipyard master will be busy by the visit of his grandson -a three months old petit officer, not of the Cyprus Navy, he is a British subject.

Limassol its now spring over 18° C. and the colours of the sea are beautiful! (picture: Limassol Port, harbor tugboat is piloting Natural Gas Drill  platform)

Thanks Chuck, Jim, Svein and Kevin. And thanks for all the likes as well.
Just a few photo's on how I am travelling with the yard assemblies. They are not finished but are slowly getting there. At this point I am going for the natural look instead of painting them black. I didn't realise until after I finished the Boom & Gaff that Chuck changed his mind on his original ship and painted them black after assembling them on the ship unpainted (rigging and all). I'm not that brave (yet). I also don't mind the natural look as it highlights the details more. But... I still have a choice up until I pin them onto the masts...
Here are a few photo's....(which got uploaded in reverse order....lol)

@Dutchman how wonderful to know we have the same love!
The new version Its really a great  kit. Has a good quality of materials and its not bad designed. The frame and the planking could still have been a little better designed (you can see that on the pictures above of @chris wattondesign - thats a design!)And ofcourse the luck of drawings its a minus. Now, I cant tell about the old version. But from pictures am looking to, its not bad either, though the AL people say that its not to be compared with the new one which "is definitely one of their best models ... by far"!

Wish you lots of fan with this wonderful kits. Enjoy our great hobby Dutchman... after all this is another way of sailing.... in the naval history!

    Christos

Ps. The original colours of the ship are those of the new kit.The old version was wrong in this.

Planking the gunwale. Planks 2x5x300. Well soaked and then just bending on a cylinder similar to the radius of the ship's bow. So far 14 planks. But shipyard closes for next week and the finishing of the gunwale will be delayed for a week.
