    Hello,
that was a week of drawing. But at least I will build the cabins after the standard drawing. If it was really so, I don't know

May be I make the bed place a little narrower. But here I can store the cannon in the cabin.

This is the version they used at the Medway. The difference is, at the Medway the cabins are going until right behind the mast. So they are a little broader, but there is at least no space left for the cannon.
They had this cabins for the master and someone else, but I think that the master must look in this case for a place in the lobby for his maps and octant. When the 1.Lt. and the master had this deck, there are these extra cabins. Below the drawing for the 1745 establishment.

The carpenters where also busy and build the spirketting for this deck.

    Hello,
the carpenters started with planking the QD. Here first the balcony and the parquet in the great cabin for the captain. At that time only the great cabin had a parquet.

And here the painter has oiled the floor

    Merry Christmas everyone!
I have reached a major milestone with this model just today. All the standing rigging is now in place. Phew... I counted 125 individual lines that make up the standing rigging. Happy with the results and I'm now looking forward to the next phase of the project, the running rigging. I have opted to leave the ratlines until the last. Not because I dislike tying off what seems like hundreds of pieces of rigging, but because I hope it makes the running rigging easier to access. It is for this reason that the lifeboats are yet to be secured. All the yards are prepped and ready to install. I now have to decide on the order in which to place them all.
Here are some pics of the completed standing rigging.

    Hello,
the ward room is ready! The shipwright is very pleased.
    The entrance

And the question, where where the cannons stored?

The traditionally way, as above. No, or stored to the walls

In this case there could't be more cabins for the 3. and 4. Lieutenants made from sailcloth. So I think that they at least stored one pair of cannons outside of the wardroom. I've got the division here from the 60 gunner York, 1753.

And this is what you will see later from all of this

Hello and many thanks for all the likes.
Today I set in the floors for the quarter galleries. Now all has a lot more stability. The next complicated task would be to build the frames for the windows here.

My way to make sure that the quarter pieces are at the same angle

    Hello,
after a short pause at the shipyard, we managed to fit in the quarter pieces. It's not all done till now, but we are on the way.

    Hi All,
Well, with the fall weather and rain arriving (yay...) it's high time to get back to model building! It's been March since I last posted any progress and to be honest, not much has happened. But with more free time and crappy weather I am really looking forward to getting all the standing rigging set up. I am using a combination of Nepean's book and Underhill's excellent text regarding the rigging of ocean clippers as well as Campbell's plans. Together they have helped immensely. I had started with the lower mast stays and lower shrouds on each mast as they held the masts to the desired rakes. A short blurb in Nepean's book which I thought makes sense is to set up the shrouds and backstays first before tying off the stays. This is due to the fact that the former are set at smaller angles relative to the mast and therefore have less tendency to pull the mast out of the desired plumb. So I shifted gears and have therefore continued with the mizzen standing rigging (shrouds, backstays and stays) for the lower mast first, then the topmast (shrouds, backstay, stay), and will continue that process for the main mast and foremast. Of course creating a "cage" of standing rigging will make the running rigging more interesting and challenging.
Here are a few pic's of the progress...

Today I complete the topgallant masts.  The second photo show a side view of the model, with the various masts loosely attached.  I still have more to do on them, including installing fids, eyebolts, and blocks.

Deck planking completed.  Next I’ll cut in the wide support planks for the fife rail and windlass. Then sanding and staining.

I was in Annapolis this weekend attending the Sailboat show. The Pride of Baltimore 2 was there, docked and available for the public to tour.
What a beautiful sight! That ship is quite impressive and the most interesting part is how slanted the masts are. I have never seen something like that on a period ship or even on a more recent vessel. The deck had all the guns in place plus (unfortunately) all the modern safety stuff that are now required, to navigate.

Stain first. Wipe on Poly will create a plastic film on top of the wood.
It may work both ways, but I would stain first.
Best, is to try on scrap woods.

Deck planking had been moving at a decent pace. I’ve been sanding a little with 220 grit as I go. Nibbing isn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I think it’s coming out pretty good. I switched from CA to a wood glue for the deck planking. Gives me a lot more control, and easier to pull up some planks where I wasn’t  happy with how they originally looked. A few more planks to finish off, then sanding, and touching up the red combings and planksheer. I also need to cut in the wider boards that sit under the fife rails and windlass.

    Starboard side completed

Soon I’ll need to start considering stain color for the deck.
Question—— Do I apply a poly coat on the deck  prior to staining? Or stain first, then poly coat?

Planking continues at a snail's pace, and my first attempts at nibbing are complete. You can practice, but once you start making cuts into that planksheer, there's really no turning back. So far so good...No major issues. Far from perfect, but I can live with it.

    Thanks for the likes, all.
     Some progress.
I've cut, sanded, painted, and installed the coamings. I'm sure the paint will need touching up before all is said and done, but this seemed to the best way for me to get a nice clean line of red coaming against the deck. Installing the coamings first also seemed to be the best way for me to get the coamings to look flush to the deck given the deck's curvature, I guess we'll see if how it works out as the deck planking procedes.

I have started by installing the nibbing planks to the bulkheads and edged glued to the planksheer. This will be my first attempt at Nibbing plaks so I'm hoping to get the hang of it quickly and not butcher this task. But first, the two wider thicker planks down the center. These are simply one on each side of the centerline, straight down the ship. Can't forget to cut out the decking for the mast holes.

Looks like I need to manipulate the fore side of the large cabin coaming. I'll unglue, and add some some wood shims on the port side. That should even out the coaming height side to side.

It is done, the lower finishings are build in. Painting them was very difficult, but also that is done.
