    Good evening everyone

well that's it, the trawler is finished, but that not the end of her, she will be going into a diorama at some stage in the future, i will at that time do any weathering

i enjoyed a this build a lot, the instructions were poor, plans not much better, every bit of white metal required some attention, and i would do it all again tomorrow

painting was mainly rattle can primer  and acrylics left over from other builds large amounts of Red, white  with Matt black were used

i would like to thank everyone who has followed me , and for comments and likes, going to spend tomorrow cleaning up the mancave and get the next project on the go, see you all on another thread

    good evening everyone

still never finished her today, but did get to season 5 of Game of thrones

life buoys done, I only had flat white and flat red left, and i think its better than gloss, the fish ponds took ages to put back into position, 150 loose boards, i cannot secure them until im sure how the build is going to be displayed

lighting tested and working, 2 circuits nav lights on one, everything else on the other

When I want a real smooth wood surface I use this auto body filler.  It's meant to cover the scratches from sanding on metal/fiberglass not big dents.  I use an old credit card or the ones we all get in the mail as a spreader.  I force the filler into the surface as thin as possible.  When it's cured I sand it and check as best I can that I have a good smooth surface and then I prime.  Depending how the primer looks I either lightly sand and apply more filler in areas where it's needed and then sand again or if it's good at that point I skip the sanding and then paint.  When the primer doesn't show any defects it's time to paint.

    Bob:
The Spring 2020 Journal (Issue 65.1) has my Tips & Techniques article on exactly how to do it while only having to carefully mask once.  Exactly as rvchima said above - Except that you should seal the waterline tape with a light over spray of the masking taped edges with the same white as used for the waterline before masking along the waterline tape with wider masking.  The reason to lightly over spray with white is to seal the edges of the tape to prevent bleed of paint under the tape.  If there is any bleed it will be the white that will be invisible over the original white.

Spray at 90 degrees to the hull surface and don't let paint build up along the waterline tape and when the tape is removed there will not be a noticeable edge thickness of the hull colors.

Peel the tape back over itself to avoid lifting paint.

Bob, there are lots of ways to skin a cat but if it were my project, I would paint the hull white. When dry, I would mask off the white stripe. Then paint the black and aqua color  take off the masking and you are done. Just my two cents worth.

I took advantage of a cloudy afternoon to take a break from regular work and do a quick photo shoot on my porch, using my phone with a few rumpled sheets as backdrops. May try to do a nicer job someday but the model's not going anywhere and this let me feel a sense of closure. It was pretty windy and you'll see the flag changing positions!

Usually quite well, I’m 79 next month, not very fit, Can’t walk very far,  got lots of free time ( especially in Lock Down ) I’m really lucky I have the ability to do this, and I enjoy it. This only took under 2 hours. Long may I be able to do it!.
Ps it’s also nice that other people enjoy it as well.
