Rudder is mounted to the ship, the tiller is mounted to the rudder, and some chocks and cleats were added to the inside wales.

Dang. I didn't even know what a gudgeon and pintle were. If it was discussed outside of this forum I would have thought it was danish food or something (sorry Sjors). Every now and then you more experienced guys remind me that I am still in the woods without a compass...learning...slowly learning. Thanks for helping to keep my bearings.

John, I have to say - when my gudgeon and pintle time comes I will appreciate this little deviance of yours here...

    Ahoy John

I completely agree and knowing your limitations shows wisdom.

There is no such thing as perfect ship. Knowing when to fight or "picking your battles" is key to victory or completing a kit. If it helps I have deducted about 100 scale points from my build. Although there is something to be said/learned fixing mistakes, damaging a build to make something scale is just wrong in my book.

If you do this same thing on your next build, well now that's a horse of a different color.

.......and at the pond in central park today,  police arrested a one armed man,  who was bothering the other boaters,  by continuously rowing in a circle!

Yesterday was a strange day....however, I did manage to paint the rudder and copper plate it.  Today I'll build the tiller and wheel, and hoefully get started on the rest of the Hurricane House.  I do have to make the hinges and mount the rudder....probably first.

Hi Popeye, what happened was when I started gluing it with the CA, I handled it upside down and continued to match it accordingly starting at the bottom, and working my way up, therefore, getting it completely backwards.....then I CA'd it to the ship with my mind on the tiller height, and lining up the copper sheeting...not even thinking about the fact that it was backwards....all done, attached the tiller ....  also with CA, and then touch up paint....blah...blah....started working on the rest of the Hurricane House, and then took pictures....put them on the computer and went....Oh S#@$.........they're upside down......anyways, I'm going to leave them like they are, and oh by the way, I forgot to redo them.....

Hi Dave, Danish food sounds good, perhaps with honey and cinnamon....could be good deserts maybe.....anyways Dave, when you get to mounting Rudders some day, if it's backwards, the weight of the rudder has nothing to support it if it is upside down.....a peened hinge bolt would wear out rapidly like mine is set up and could and probably would fall off....not good physics.....this was just pure oblivion....I wasn't looking at it....getting old I guess....but for the general public, they'll never know the difference....only ship and model builders and of course this forum.......please...no Captain's Mast...I'm punished enough just knowing it.....

very interesting set up on this ship........too bad there isn't a seat for the helmsman to sit in,  so he can swivel with the wheel
