DSiemens got a reaction from augie in Mercury by DSiemens - FINISHED - BOTTLE
As a matter of fact I didn't.
The hatches I made by staining a copy of the plans then cutting out the piece and gluing it on. A trick I learned from Greg Alvey of www.folkartinbottles.com. It was part of his build of the Bounty.

At least you gave it a try. Most of the guys in my club look at what I do and say. "Better you than me."
Well I got the cannons done and I still had bit of sanity left so I added some hatches and a capstan. Now that my sanity is totally shot I'll call it a day.

nice one Andrieke..........look for the mood
then you can prose
about Sjors and his brood
really can't vision
Sjors on the street
donning a clown suit
looking discreet
asking donations
for a ship on his mind
not that he's in need
or in a bind
but one day he will
to add to his stash
that dear ship Aggie
another ship to bash!
this man's so creative
oh, see what he's done
he juggling two ships
a clown having fun

I agree Popeye. Nothing like ending the day with a cold root beer, the smell of saw dust, and beautiful lines of a ship in progress.

Thank you John. I enjoy your comments.
Augie a good influence? Well..... Thanks for the compliment. I will try to post more as I find time. You wouldn't have any to spare would you.
Thanks Michael. Some times I think it's to much detail for this scale but on the other hand I like pushing my self to these limits.
Thanks Texxn5. It's getting tedious at this point those darn cannons are a pain in behind. I'll keep it up though.
Well it's been a while since I've posted or even been around. I blame work. I won't go into that heavily but long story short I have a ton of financials to do by yesterday and not much time for much else. Seems as though I've been too tired to reply to posts let alone build. I'm hoping to have work ship shape by the end of June though and then I can get back to the ship yard more often.
I did make some progress today. Not much but some. I finished off the cannons on the port side and added the hatches.
Still a lot more to go.

I'm finding that's true. I find from time to time that for being a patience bottle builder I sure don't have enough patience.
They have just about sent me over the brink. I got them all done yesterday and not a day to soon.
I wouldn't say I'm beating my self up so much as i am tired of work and the drama lama's of work. Makes it worse when I get home get the kiddo's to bed and then am to tired to build. Things are looking up though. Another month and I'll have things where they want them and then I think I'll take a week off.

Pictures?! you mean there's a build going on in this build log? Looking good Sjors. Very clean work.

Thought I'd pop in for a look and glad I did she's looking great. I really like the overall look of this ship.
Sjors your really getting picked on lately. People may want to be careful. Between the secret stash and the ten Euros you may be able to afford some new cannonballs.

Thanks Garward.
A small update I added the stern chasers tiller a couple cannons and the bowsprit. The cannons have proved easier with a draw plate. I used to turn all of them but they never came out the same size.
I must be reading Augies build log to often because i added the Syren red gunports. The color scheme i was given called for red, gold, white and black. I had them all but read and I wasn't sure where to put it so I painted the gun ports. I think it makes them pop a little more.

thanks Anja, Sherry and Sjors. the admiral is such a good soul....she really loves what I do. when she heard my elation, she came over to look at her.......commented on how nice she looked. then, with three other hulls on the tables, she asked me if I had another one to work on...........I should have said no

Glad to see you getting her started.....the Morgan that is!
Tough break there only being with your Admiral for 5 months. Mine's been around her for 40 odd years so all I ever need do is give her 100% of my attention for more than 1 day and she begins to ask 'aren't you going out or have a new project to start'

I'll put this up for all the SIB builders out there.

Thanks! Some one from the ship in bottle forums insisted I include it. So I threw it in there from time to time.

Then there's the big question what next. Sure you got the Gothenburg but I just can't see you doing only one or two builds.

Got the port side done and the rudder in place. Still need to add the keel which is why I left the rudder so long. My philosophy is cut big and sand to size. So far it works.
I also decided to change the way I did the windows and the transom. The ship lacked color so I cut off the old transom added color to the plans in Photoshop and printed a new one. I like this much better. Then like an idiot I nick it with the dremel. So if you see some paint differences that's why.
I also added gold paint around the windows. This actually did two things added color and the build up of the paint gave it a more defined windowsill look. I'm much happier with my windows now.
Now I'm finally getting to the itty bitty fun parts.

Got some more work done. I'm not going to worry about scribing planking on any of the other ships the channels covered it all up. I tried a new idea and cut out the windows straight from the plans and glued them onto the side and back of the ship. I like the look and it's much more accurate then trying to paint it on.

DSiemens got a reaction from IgorSky in Mercury by DSiemens - FINISHED - BOTTLE
More pictures!!! I decided to try and scribe the planking. My thought is I can scribe it and if it's awful I can plank over it.
The deck planking came out well. I'm very happy with it.
The rest is so so. From far away it's ok since it's such a small ship but up close it looks like it was planked by the three stooges. I'm still in debate about it for a few reasons. It isn't as well done as I would like but I do like the look. I'm thinking though that with it in the bottle and with some channels going on as well as other fittings they won't be noticeable So in effect it may work just fine.
Also I'm adding the sealer, forgot the actual name, on the bottom which covers a lot of the planking lines. Most of this will be under the ocean but I like having it.
I am planning on building two or three of these so I may just keep this one as the practice ship and turn over the better ones to the pirates.
